Changing video source on tv interrupts recordings on HD PVR

I don't get it but if I switch sources on my TV (from HDMI1 to HDMI2) and sagetv is recording on the HD PVR, it stops recording for a few seconds when I change sources. How does the HD PVR even know that I'm doing anything on the TV?

My guess is that somehow the video card is sensing the fact that it's not being monitored any more and it causes everything to lock up momentarily, but I don't see why it would do that.

Yep that's exactly your issue. Most likely your pc is going to sleep/power saving mode when your copmuter thinks that there is no monitor connected anymore and that is causing an interuption in the recording. Many have had problems with various video cards with these sorts of issues when they "switch away" as you put it. It is not an issue with the HDPVR as it could care less if you are watching what it is recording.

Well it's not sleep or powersave as the hd pvr continues after a couple seconds, and the computer is always on. But the computer is doing something stupid.
