VBR MP3 duration miscalculation

Does anyone else have a problem with Sage's idea of the duration of VBR MP3 files? For me, it shows the file to be about 30-40% longer than it is, and then plays silence for the overrun...

This makes it a bit difficult for me for sage to play my MP3's, at least not without manually switching the track when the music stops! (my MP3's are encoded with LAME --alt-preset standard)

And what are the odd start/stop times on the duration bar?

I have the same exact problem but never realized that it was caused by the duration being miscalculated. Most of my MP3s are VBR encoded with LAME as well.

Done a quick test:

128Kbit CBR with LAME: correctly calculated
132Kbit ABR with LAME: incorrectly calculated... I think it takes the bitrate of the first MP3 frame, and then applies it to the entire file...

I have submitted a bug on this...

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in new release? It was still a problem in RC 2

Exclamation nuts

Guess I'll dredge up this old thread.

The problem is still there in v6.0.18 and almost all of my MP3s are Lame VBR encoded. They show up nearly 2x actual runtime in Sage, but play fine everywhere else. Sage has listed a 128k bitrate for all the VBR mp3s I've checked so far.

I sent a note in to Sage support as well. Maybe they'll figure out something simple other than all of us going back to CBR encoding.
