System Reboots on Certain Movies

Hello everyone,

I need some help figuring out an issue.

First off, the system specs.
CPU: Dual Quad core xeon 2.66 Processors
MB: Asus Z7S WS
RAM: 8GB FB DDR2-800
VIDEO: 2xHD3870 Crossfire
HD: 1 x 500GB Seagate
RAID: HighPoint Rocket Raid 2320 with 8x1TB Samsung
SOUND: Onboard Sound
PSU: 900W Enermax
OS: Vista Ultimate SP1 64Bit
CODEC: K-Lite Codec Pack (Latest Version), using the built in SAGE MPEG decoder.

I built this system for a friend who is a graphic designer and wanted the machine to be his sage file server as well. I mention this only to avoid the obvious statement of “I think this may be a little more power than needed for a media server” .

The problem I am having is this. When watching one movie, the picture is fine, the sound however sounds as if someone is digitizing it. Another movie, cause the system to reboot without error or warning at a specific point in the movie.

Both these movies play fine on my system, which is running Vista 64BIT, and using the same codec pack. Also, both movies run fine if we watch them with Media Player Classic on my friends system. Also, both movies run fine on HD Extenders.

I have run a Prime95 stress test three times, all three times has been for 32 hours without incident. I have also confirmed that the heat for the various components is withing acceptable range, so I don’t think it is an over heating issue. I have reinstalled sage twice with no success.

As mentioned above, both of these movies, on experience issues in Sage. However, they run fine on my system with sage.

My friend has had the system only for a few days, so if it was just these two movies, we could deal with that. But the concern is this will become a larger issues as he tries to watch more movies.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thank you.
