DVD Audio (stereo only)

I've been reading through pages of search results for "DVD audio" to no avail, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. My setup includes a server running as a service and a single client, both running under 32-bit XP Pro. I'm using S/PDIF to my Pioneer receiver.

For the life of me, I cannot get 5.1 Dolby Digital to pass through to the receiver. I've used the brute force troubleshooting method of selecting each and every option I could find under audio with no luck (not a real surprise, I suppose). Using FFDShow, I was able to get 5.1 DD from MKV files. After some tweaking, I can get 5.1 DD via AC3Filter for the MKV files, too. DVD's... still just stereo. Last night, I tried installing the software for my HD-PVR (not currently in use), hoping that might fix something, but it didn't. I've also been getting sporadic Macrovision/CSS errors during playback of DVD's.

Any suggestions? I've got GraphEdit installed, so I can provide an image of that if requested. I just don't understand how to interpret and change what I see. Thanks in advance.

I've used AC3filter and let's you specify which audio out and also let's you set a delay if needed. http://ac3filter.net/

As I said, I've got AC3filter installed and configured for 5.1 audio from MKV files. Shouldn't that mean it's set up right for 5.1 from DVD's too? But, I'm still not getting 5.1 audio for any of my DVD's, whether they're ripped or not. AC3filter is set to "as is", "as is", "PCM float", and "SPDIF" for the output format. I've tried various other combinations as well, with no luck. Are there any other critical settings I need to change from their defaults? SageTV is set for AC3filter as well. What am I missing?

not necessarily. DVDs use a different media type than straight ac3. on the system tab make sure that dvd is selected.

when you render a dvd in graphedit does ac3filter automatically join the graph?

is ac3filter selected as your preferred filter for dvd in sage?

I could swear I had done this multiple times, but I reinstalled AC3filter, changed absolutely NO settings. Switched SageTV to the AC3filter decoder and everything started working: very frustrating, to say the least. I appreciate you guys jumping in to help.
