Lightbulb Online Videos Mod Idea

I would like a modification that would integrate with online videos... In such a way that it downloads the video to your record dir and it can then be watched via imported videos.

For example the Diggnation videos seem to me quicktime so they should play later just fine. It would be great to have even an automatic torrent file downloader so I could add favorites. This part might be too much.

I miss being able to finish watching the rest of an episode at a later time.

Maybe the videos could be added to a downloading list?

It shouldn't be that hard... But I am also asking for your programming help.

You might want to check out iPodifier. It basically does what you're wanting and thats what most SageTV folks used before online videos was an option.

This software runs external to SageTV. You subscribe to the podcasts your are interested in and it (automatically) downloads the video files to the SageTV server. In the software you can specify the directory location to store to and in Sage you can include that diretory as a VIDEO directory. Once a new podcast is available and iPodder downloads the video , you can watch it in Sage. Pretty simple process actually :-)

video conversion? iPodifier doesn't convert - it downloads the podcasts as you were asking for in the original post unless I misunderstood what you were asking for.

The page you linked says many things about transcoding... specifically: "Unlike other transcoding software that simple re-encodes the video into an iPod compatible format, iPodifier takes it a few steps further." Don't make it seem like I'm making it up...

I'll give it a go anyhow. Although this program is nowhere close to as good as it would be to have sage do this directly.

After installing this software and going through a few steps of the setup wizard, I am at a loss. This software seems to be soley based are video conversion for the ipod. It wants to automatically convert videos from sage to work on an ipod.

How does this program help me in my original request? To me it looks like it does nothing but conversions.

Another alternative free method of downloading video streams is "Download Helper", a free plug-in to Firefox, http://www.downloadhelper.net/. Download Helper will transcode videos into different formats. Using Download Helper is independent of SageTV, but you can playback the videos with SageTV. Download Helper does not work with all sites. Download Helper does work on Youtube and several other popular sites.

There are pay video stream capturing programs too, although I don't own or use any of them. I do use Total Recorder Professional edition for audio streams, and that works great on all audio streams.

Hey no problem, thanks for the suggestion though...

I'm still going to hold out hope that someone might pick up on this idea.

It's very bothersome to lose your viewing position if you want to watch in segments.

Brent may have been thinking of "iPodder" which has changed names to Juice. Another similar program is PodPuppy. These two programs behave as I described in the above post.

While yes, a totally integrated solution inside SageTV would be awesome, this should provide the next best thing :-)

Enjoy,
