Question HD100 and digital bitstream for audio

I am looking at adding an HD100 to my Sage setup and specifically, it would be set up in the main HT and be connected to a surround sound amp. My question is...

What is the deal with how the volume works when using the optical output? Does this just dump a raw digital bitstream (As it should be) or does the volume on the remote for the HD100 still change the volume?

I do own a Harmony remote so I do have plans to NOT use the remote that comes with the HD100 but I do want to know what the deal is before I go and buy one.

TIA,
Jason.

I have a Harmony 890 and the HD100 connected via optical to my amp. I don't use the volume on the HD100 and I get DD (5.1) to my amp (when avail). I don't know about DTS but I think I read you may not. But again not sure.

BTW, you might be waiting awhile b4 you get your hands on a HD100.

I was not worried about this. I was more concerned that there was more than line level bits and bytes on the digital output. More simply put, even if I am running the volume with the amp/harmony, would the volume on the HD100 still cause the overall volume to change?

I figured this to be the case but fortunately, I am not planning to make any major changes to the main HT till Feb/Mar.

I am unsure. Either someone else can chime in or you can email support.

It depends. If the audio source is Dolby Digital (or DTS), then the volume control doesn't change the volume, as you'd expect. If you're working with something like a standard-def recording, then the volume control does change the volume.

In practice this isn't an issue for many of us. I don't even use the Hd100 remote. My receiver came with a learning remote, and I programmed in the HD100 commands. The volume on the receiver's remote only changes the volume on the receiver.
