CPU Usage

SageTV should not use up valuable CPU time for things like Video Conversions when there is a shortage on the system. I find myself cancelling conversions in progress just so I can watch glitch-free TV on an extender. SageTV should monitor CPU usage and not do Video Conversions when usage is high.

Is there any way to tell ComSkip to stop when CPU usage is high?

Deleting shows

I have found at least two situations when I can't delete a show. For instance:

When another user has the program on-screen.

When there is a Video Conversion in progress.

At the very least there should be a message why a show isn't being deleted.

There should also be a way to manage users so that if someone has left the system on an Administrator can terminate the connection. About the only way I can think of to do that now is to stop the Server and start it again requiring all extenders to reconnect. Definitely a sledge-hammer workaround.

That could be an interesting option... since i would think that comskip would the reason whte CPU is high So it would start, then check cpu, then stop I'm not very knowledgble about Windows, but can you assign a priority to comskip, that is very low, so that other processes can "steal" cpu cycles from it?

Doesn't nielm's web server allow you to disconnect/turn off connected clients?

Comskip is part of the problem (and it has settings for high, low and off, but only for fixed times of day), but SageTV Video Conversion is worse. I have an application program which watches CPU usage and reduces non-critical CPU usage when it gets over 50% total.

/Low = Low priority
and
-n = playnice

I've been considering writing a small program... or trying out sage job queue to have my transcodes happen in the middle of the night. I only watch recorded tv, and most of what I record happens during prime time, so moving the transcoding to the middle of the night would work for me. It's either that... or buy quad core server

1. Start your conversions before you hit the sack.
2. Add the SJQ plugin to schedule this stuff automatically
3. Verify you have:

Code:
xcode_process_priority_streaming=abovenormal
In your sage.properties file.
