Comskip in StandAlone Mode

Does the new media extender support comskip files for watching TV in stand-alone mode?

Not until someone figures out how to write an STVi to read them.

can the current STVi for skipping commercials run in stand alone mode though, and source the .smi file from the same network location is the mpg being watched?

Has anybody made progress on this?

BTW, maybe this thread should be moved to the "Standalone Mode" section

Thanks,

Drew

You have no way to load a STVI in standalone mode.

That's a shame. Being able to run comskip in stand-alone mode would be a killer feature for people happily running other recording solutions (mythtv, gppvr, etc), as most (all?) UPnP type extenders lack this feature..

But if you want to add plugins you would run it in Sage Extender mode. There is a reason there are two distinct modes. Your stand alone mode will mimic most networked players out there for a reason. If you want to run SageTV plugins then run it in Extender mode. If you want to do even more (Blu-Ray and DVD discs) then get a PC client. I'm pretty sure Hulu is on its way also. The standalone mode can only do so much.

I'm guessing there is a way to load STVi's. I know you can run a custom STV at least.

Brent,

Did you ever get your custom STV to load? I know you were having issues.

Not yet. The guys at SageTV are still waiting for me to get back to this so they can help me out. I just didn't have the time to mess with it these past few weeks, but I'm going to try and get back to it today again. I'll report back as soon as I get it working for me.

That sounds weird to me. Why don't they just get it working on their own and then get back to you?

ok. Maybe I worded that wrong. I submitted a bug report and they have responded to that bug report with some things for me to try. I haven't tried those things yet so I don't know what's happening on their end.

As far as they know I'm the only one having a problem since I don't think anyone else has tried it or at least said they are having a problem also

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has made progress on this. I would love to be able to skip commercials marked in an edl while in standalone mode. I take a HD200 and USB hard drive on my boat for a few weeks every summer and this would really make it easier to enjoy my Sage recordings I bring with me.

Alternatively, are there reliable methods of editing out commercials from HD-PVR or Colossus H264 files based on cuts defined in a comskip edl file (other than VideoRedo)? I've read that some tried it with mencoder but it sounds like the H264 edl cutting isn't very reliable in mencoder.

VideoRedo TV Suite is your best bet for cutting out the commericials in either .mpg2 or h.264 format. Comskip can generate VideoRedo Project files that will mark them for cutting inside of VideoRedo.

Nobody has written a plugin for Sage in standalone mode. For either comskip play or for anything else AFAIK.
