ATI 3450 and VMR9
First of all I want to say how much I love this little card. ALL video playback is flawless when using overlay. VMR9 offers me little or no improvement in video quality (i may notice a difference if i could get it to work.) The main reason I'd like vmr to work is the transparrent menus. It doesn't matter what program I use for playback the video is all kinds of messed up. I have read every thread I can find about VMR and ati cards and haven't found anyone else that has the problems as bad as I do. I have tried multiple drivers with minor improvements. I am pretty sure it is a driver issue because some are better than others. Does anyone know of a specific driver that has little or no issues?
Thanks in advance. |

VMR9 and a 3450 worked great for me. Just make sure you enable acceleration in sagetv, enable acceleration in your codec of choice, and use FSE mode. Any other issues may point to more serious issues.

could you please post your settings as I have all accelleration enable within codecs and sagetv. As far as I can tell from my settings it should be working, so hopefully your settings will shed some light on the problem.
Thanks. |

I suspects VMR9 is not working on your system at all. Try download Media Player Classic or DXVA Checker and play some videos in VMR9 first. This will tell you whether the problem is with Sage only or not. In case VMR9 is not working in your system, download and install the latest DirectX runtime from M$.

It is not working in MPC at all. I have downloaded the current directx as well. I will reload it to see if that helps.

Hardware is:
Gigabyte 965p-s3 rev 1.0 Celeron e1200 Gskill 512mb ddr2 800x2 AMD ATI 3450 with catalyst control center. driver version 8.11 and 8.5 sony bluray drive I have tried many driver versions with no luck. VMR9 works wonderfully with mpeg2, but not vc-1 or avc. It doesn't matter what codec I use the video is unwatchable. |

Try setting ATI's deinterlace mode to "Automatic" in the Catylist Control Center. Any other mode can prevent VMR9 from working...as I found out with my wife's 780G based client. I much prefer green to red for Sage, but see if that helps.

I have an ATI 4870 and VMR9 doesn't work in Sage for me either. I tried DXVA Checker and it appears to support it, I don't know what, exactly, I'm looking for though. I downloaded MPC and played every kind of file I have, including DVDs, and they all work fine in VMR9, except in Sage which seems to only like overlay. *shrug*
EDIT: I should mention that VMR9 works fine on my WHS server with an nvidia card but not on my XP Sage client with the ATI card. I've tried everything I can think of short of re-installing the client. Last edited by S_M_E; 12-27-2008 at 07:53 AM. |

I don't have a bluray drive yet but I have tried .mkv files and everything I have works, avi, mp4, mkv, vob, mpg, wmv, etc... I'd be willing to test small snippets of any format that people want tested, the problem, for me, seems to be sage client+vmr9+ati. I'm putting off reinstalling the client until 6.5 is released.

I'm not big on bumping threads but has anyone found out why vmr9+ATI cards aren't playing well together with Sage? I never had a problem with vmr9+nvidia cards and I don't want to swap out my 4870 for an older nvidia card. I'm hoping I'm just missing a setting someplace or maybe the 6.5 client upgrade will fix it when that's released. Anyone not stuck using overlay with ati cards?

I get massive amounts of tearing with my ATI HD3200 when I use VMR9 in Sage running on XP. Overlay is fine. |
