HD200...Wake Up Server...

I recently bought an HD-200 Extender and HVR-2250 Tuner Card for my bother... He is totally disabled... The situation is difficult... And for him, money is very tight as you may imagine... I also built him a server (Vista 64) for the HD-200...etc... I plan on getting him another HD-200 for another room if this all works out... The server has no issues with coming alive via any PC on the network... It wakes up NO PROBLEM... However, for many reasons the server absolutely CANNOT be left running (awake) 24 hours per day and a PC absolutely CANNOT be used ahead of time to wake up the server... The server MUST sleep and the HD-200 MUST be able to wake it up as a response to it being turned on... And/or if not when the HD-200 turns on then you must be able to go somewhere within the HD-200 menu and wake up the server manually... My experience is that even if you have the server listed in the HD-200 "server list" and/or the HD-200 set to automatically find the server it will NOT wake up the server first... In other words, from my experience, the server must be AWAKE first for the HD-200 to find it regardless if asking at startup or asking manually after startup via the "server list"... Bottom Line... I need to know how to make the HD-200 WAKE UP THE SERVER so that it can then find it... Any help is greatly appreciated as without this feature the entire project will absolutely need to be abandoned... Thanks for any help you may give...

The HD200 doesn't wake the server automatically, at least I haven't found the settings for that. I have mine on "auto connect to server" and I've placed my server on the list, but it still goes to offline mode first. I can then go to the list of servers and select the server, then it'll wake the server.

It'll auto connect if the server is already awake.

The HD100 will wake the server automatically if you set it to auto connect.

Are you sure about that? If so, what settings do you use on your server? I cannot wake my server using the HD100. I have have to use my notebook to send a magic packet to wake the server.

Yep, do that almost every night since the HD100 is for my bedroom TV, just takes slightly longer when the server (winxp) is in standby (S3).

It's a Gigabyte 780g mobo with integrated Realtek RTL8168c nic. I don't think there was even a wake on lan setting in the bios, so no particular settings there. On the NIC setting in device manager, under power management tab, only checks are on "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." The box for "only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby" is unchecked.

Going back to the original question. You can have it wake the server from within the standalone menu if you add your server to the server list manually.

Just go to "Sage Server"
Select "Edit Server List"
Add new server, check box for "Connect directly by hostname/IP"
Then enter the host IP used for the server. And just in case you have trouble finding the "." to enter, use the "1" button.

I played around with the "Server List" with no success YET... Do I need to be using a "Static IP Address" for this to work or will it work as I have it set now using DHCP to obtain the network address... I CAN make the change to Static but I would need to change several other pieces of equipment used for his care... As it stands now ALL other equipment WORKS PERFECT with DHCP for waking up the server so I need to be very careful about changing this...

Just let me know if Static is necessary or NOT... Perhaps I am a bit confused at this point... I think IF you just tell me if a Static Address is necessary or NOT I will be able to continue trouble shooting your suggestion without going down various roads of experimentation... Thanks...

OK... I have it working... The server will WAKE UP manually when directly prompted from the HD200... That will do the job FOR NOW... If you come up with a way to have the server WAKE UP automatically when the HD200 is powered up that would be even better... But this step as it stands will help greatly... I sincerely appreciate the help you gave to me... Thank you very much...

OK... I have been playing around with this for MANY HOURS now... It seems that I have made a mistake... I did not realize it at the time but my brother was fiddling in another room at the time and HE was bringing up the server via a PC... I did NOT know that... Whatever... Anyway the bottom line is... I cannot make it work... I cannot in any way come up with a reliable way for the HD200 to WAKE UP the server either automatically at startup or manually via a menu after startup... Therefore I am asking again if anyone has any further suggestions as I have exhausted the ones already given... Please try again...

Here's how I have it setup, and works for me:

Server settings as posted above, and with static IP for the server set on router.

Server is set manually on HD200 with name, Locator ID, Hostname/IP, all info entered, and box for hostname/IP checked.

Don't know if this info is necessary but on my router (d-link dgl-4300) I also have "SageTV webserver" (input & output port 8080) and "Sage Placeshifter" (input and output port 31099) placed as "special applications" that triggers ports for things like wake-on-lan, netmeeting, ftp, etc.
