I have looked around the forum and elsewhere for a practical solution to embed a browser into Sage(TV)/(MC). However, I have not been able to come up with anything that will accopmlish what I'm trying to do.
I have been playing around with different ways to integrate online content that is not directly supported by Sage such as Hulu. I had messed around with calling browsers (using Mozilla Prism standalone web app shell) as an external application and after adding 3+ sites, it was feeling too disjointed. I looked around for an application that could be used as an integrator of different online video content providers and first found some torrent apps like Miro and Vuze that didn't have 10' UI's. Then I came across Adob* Media Player and it was closer to what I was looking for except the still not 10' UI and a bit messy. Next, I played with an Adob* Air app called MediaPlayer which was really impressive but still not 10' UI.
Then, I found
ZeeVee Viewer. Wow! Exactly what I had been looking for - and free. It can run as a standalone app or as a Firefox add-in. I think the the standalone is built on the
Prism project from Mozilla labs. It has a clean and simple 10' UI, runs full screen, has built-in support for Hulu, ABC, Fox, YouTube, ESPN, and a whole bunch more, supports adding your own content - including local content, supports calling external apps, supports MCE remote control, and much more.
Now, I would love to embed this right into SageMC's interface. Calling it as an external app works quite well but it would be more seemless and open up many other possibilities to be able to embed the Mozilla browser and have the ability to add "New Browser Application" as a menu item.
I know the support for embedding a Mozilla browser is there - or has been there. I see the libraries in the sagetv directory. I would just like to confirm it can be done in SageMC and get some advice, guidance and help in making it work like I was describing - ability to add "New Browser Application" as a menu option.
