I tried this latest version. I love how the background now will change as you select the directory.

However it is slow. Is there any way to delay loading the background until I stop on a selection?

I have 1080p HD backgrounds, I guess they take time.

Thanks

What is the file size of your background photos?
What is the specs of your viewing PC? Or is it an extender?

I ask because it isn't slow for me in any way.

Talking

The file size ranges between 200k to 300k (from http://www.thetvdb.com/).

I have a HTPC with CPU Intel Dual Core 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM with a GeForce 8600GTS (512MB) GPU.

The output is 1080p on a Sharp 46" TV.

I can't complain about performance, the system can play 1080p files without any slowdown.

It's slightly slow for me as well on my server's client (nothing should be slow given my specs, core i7, etc).

Maybe a future enhancement would be to have a setting which would "pre-load" fanart into memory for super fast loading?

The fanart feature has to do a lot of searching through your media import folders and then your central media background folder. This is likely the source of any slowdowns.

I assume that you are only looking for specific titles and not cycling through every single fanart image. In other words, in perl, looking for "The Big Bang Theory" should be a regex search with glob. Not sure how studio does it, but if you can specify the exact file name w/o searching through all files you could speed up loading dramatically.

It does search for the exact file name. But it has to search over a number of directories, some of which may be network shares.

Mike,

Would you say then for the best performance it should be a single directory for each type?

Actually, the best performance would be to have your fanart in the first place it looks, which is the import folder. I think I'll add an option to disable searching of import folders for those who choose to keep their fanart in the central folder. That should help.

Aloha,
Mike

Red face

Most of my Fanart is residing in the import directory.
Here is how it looks:

e:/MyMovies/Leverage/
background.jpg
Leverage.S01E01.The Nigerian Job.avi
Leverage.S01E02.The Homecoming Job.avi
e:/MyMovies/The Mentalist/
background.jpg
The.Mentalist.S01E01.Pilot.avi

I really don't think it is because of searching in too many places.
