Question Does Sage capture from vcr?

Hi there, I'm new to the Sage software and I primarily use the WinTV card to capture from my vcr for converting vhs tapes to VCD and DVD.
I'm having many problems with the WinTV software and before I try the Sage software I was wondering if anyone can tell me...
Does the Sage software work with the WinTV pvr 250 when capturing from VCR or does it only work with a TV input?
Thanx!

It will work with a VCR. Just set the source to the correct input in SageRecorder and you'll record from there. Let us know if you have any questions after you give it a try.

Ok, so I downloaded and tried it... it captures beautifully on the highest quality mpeg2 setting, but when I press the preview button I get the following error message...

There was an error with the mpeg2 video setup
Please consult the log file and report the error.
Failed connecting video stream to the overlay mixer.

Any suggestions?
The capture works great, but I'd like to be able to preview it obviously!

I did several test recordings from vhs last night, the longest of which was 90 min. at the maximum quality setting.
Everything with the video and audio was perfect...
The only problem is that I still can't get the preview window to open and always get the same error message.
Thanks very much for looking into this problem for me, I look forward to getting it working 100% and will definitely be purchasing the full version if I can get it all working ok!

I can reproduce this problem on one of my machines also. I'm fairly sure it has to do with the fact that the desktop is in 24-bit color mode instead of 32-bit color mode. It's probably something weird related to Java and 24/32bit color differences. Not sure what yet, but I'm still working on it.

Well, I seem to have solved the problem with not being able to open the preview window.
I switched the rendering filter to VMR instead of overlay.
Now I can open the preview and see the video fine.
Strangely, since I got the preview window to work, now it occaisionally locks up the whole pc at random times and I have to do a reboot from the case switch.
It just basically freezes for no apparent reason!
Any idea what might be causing this freezing?

Make sure you have the latest Hauppauge Drivers
Make sure you have the latest video card drivers
Make sure you have the latest BIOS update

Any of those will commonly solve freezing problems like you mention.
