Still seeing jerkiness with HD content
I've got a pretty capable system, but I still have a problem with mini-stutters while playing back HD content on my PC.
Nothing I have tried in the past has worked (except a short-lived stint with EVR, but that's a sad story in another thread). What can I do to get smooth payback for HD? I have WinXP SP2 with nVidia PureVideo and PowerDVD8 codecs. For hardware, I have a 8800 GTS SLI rig and a dual-core AMD CPU. I know I have the horsepower, but something is still not working for me. Any help is appreciated! |

With HD-PVR or any video source?
I have had tremendous problems with HD-PVR live and recorded files. Generally, I get the best performance using PowerDVD8 codecs on my EVGA nVidia 9800 GT - but using Overlay, not 3d. I know I'm using the HD decoders and PureVideo hardware, as the CPU use is 1-4% even when playing back an HD file and recording two streams... Also 6.5.7 got really bad, so I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling everything (Sage 6.4.8, the 1.0.5.3 drivers from Hauppage etc - then upgraded to 6.5..7) blammo - everything works excellent now. Very minimimal, if ever, is the video bad. I wonder if something was in the graph - next step for me was to use Graphedit to dive in deep and see what was going on. Now, if I could only get the Hauppauge HD-PVR to keep from locking up constantly... WAF is shot right now... sigh... I feel your pain. Spent countless hours on this. Anyhow, try overlay if you have not already. Try deinstalling/reinstalling in this order if you're having this problem with HD-PVR. Remove Sage and the drivers, the install the drivers before sage, then install sage. This helped a lot for me - don't know why. If all this doesn't work - grab a copy of Graphedit and check out the decoder path, make sure things are happy there. Also you can try stereo analog inputs instead of 5.1 toslink - some have reported this helping. |

How do I use GraphEdit to look at how Sage is going to play a video? I see a diagram when I just open a mpg file with GraphEdit, but won't Sage possibly be using something different?
