Girder+Sage+USB-UIRT together?

I know for a fact that this exists in the forums, but I apologise(sp?) in advance because I couldn't find it.

I'm trying to automate some things using girder, but I can only get either sage, or girder to use my usb-uirt at any given time.

I've downloaded the plugin for girder from the usbuirt website (plugin v2.5.9; girder 3.3) and I'm using sage 2.0.13.

Reading the archives it seems that I need to get a special file to get both to play nice, but I can't find it.

Could someone please help a poor lost soul?

Thanks.

I agree. There needs to be a definitive "HowTo" on how to get the basics setup. I wrote a little howto for a friend of mine. (on how to duplicate the setup I had). It's at home and I am at work. If you don't get an answer between now and then, I can send you what I have once I get home tonight.

Wait a minute. You mention you need Sage to use the USB-UIRT.

So in other words, Girder is using the USB-UIRT to receieve IR signals from your remote and Sage is using it to transmit IR signals to change channels????

I don't even configure Sage to use the USB-UIRT. I do everything in Girder. I go directly into Sage screens like guide, live TV from sage sleeping. I don't have any issues. Girder is configured to transmit the channels to the cable box.

What I was getting at is whether we're talking about a client-only machine, or a machine that needs to be a client as well as control the cable box.

And in either case I have Girder doing it all. I'm not using Sage to do anything with the USB-UIRT. I mean of course it's doing the sendmessage to control Sage.

I'm talking about the server. I'd like to let Sage continue to do it's thing, using the USBUIRT to send AND recieve. But I would also like to use event.exe with Girder to automate my stereo system and it's inputs. I really would like to avoid doing everything in Girder, and I've seen posts saying I should be able to make both programs share the UIRT.

Have I misunderstood the capabilities of sage and girder to get along? And if so, can I use 2 UIRTs to accomplish this? That would not be the best solution, but it may be my only choice.

But right now, I can't get either program to do anything with the UIRT if the other is open. If sage is open first, then girder, girder can't initialize the hardware. If girder first, sage can't recieve or send commands.

OK, you're using your server a little different than I am, so I'm afraid I'm not up against the same issues.

In my case my Media Server sits in a back room all by itself. (picture here). It's the one with the cable box on top and the USB-UIRT duct-taped to the front of the case. It runs the SageTV Service and and in this case SageTV has FULL control of the USB-UIRT.

Then out in the living room, my HTPC connects to the big screen and runs SageTV Client. On that system I have a USB-UIRT which Girder has full control of. Girder receieves all IR input from my universal remote and then sends commands to SageTV Client and to other applications. It also blasts IR signals out to other devices like my receiver, TV, etc. I have no cable box or tuner whatsoever in the HTPC. Everything is tuned/recorded in the back room.

Therefore, I don't have the same contention issues as you.

Did you ever get an answer to dual control of a single USB UIRT?

I am able to do it now, but only by using the EXEtunerplugin.

Glasky.
How have you the send messages for channnel change with Girder? Have you assigned just channel numbers in the GML or how is it done? I have Comcast cable.
I have girder and USB-UIRT and at present only use native Sage support for Sage, I also would love to have Girder working everything.

No, I haven't got an answer...I'd love to hear your solution...Are your cable boxes different?

Well I use the EXEtuner plug-in to communicate with Girder and then control the my DirecTV receiver with the USB UIRT. In theory this should work very well. I have had issues with reliability of channels being changed. I am still experimenting with timing issues. Sometimes it works great, others, something happens where only some of the IR commands are received by the DTC100. I use Girder with Netremote all the time to control this component with 100% reliability, so the issue with Sage control with the plug-in, etc. must be something to do with the communication between Sage, through the plug-in to Girder. It has proved frustrating. I was hoping that direct communication between Sage and the USB UIRT might eliminate this timing problem.

For those with the newer USB-UIRT it might be worth a look at the new multi channel UIRT, I think this should allow both Sage and Girder to work together in same box using USB-UIRT.

I went to the USB UIRT web site, but I see nothing about a "multi channel" UIRT.
Do you have a link?

Thanks for that. Interesting. Not sure if I have one of these newer units or not. Will check tonight.

Another question for you, any idea how to get this "zone" stuff to work with SageTV?

Well I have not tried yet BUT I would think that if the ir file in sage is modified with the Z01 in front of the codes it should work. I am sure someone here more used to USB-UIRT than me will figure out exactly how to do this. It makes the UIRT much more versatile in my opinion.

I had problems with the new USB-UIRT drivers, might be worth waiting for Sage to make sure it is supported.
Glasky , do you have your girder gml file? Would be very interested in seeing how you have it setup, I personally think that girder is the better solution due to it's great versatility.
