Placeshifter not accepting all keys, starts in detailed setup

I've got two unresolved 'issues' with Placeshifter. First, on any machine that I use to connect to the server over the internet, I must hold the control key down when typing my username/password to ensure that all the letters go through. Some letters work fine, but others do not. Any idea on what would cause that?

Second, on one of my machines, PS starts in the detailed setup screen rather than the main menu. How can I get it to start in the main menu instead?

The Placeshifter login screen is notoriously prone to dropping keystrokes on slow connections. Type very slowly, making sure each character appears before typing the next.

On the startup screen issue, try reloading the stock STV and restarting your server.

Interesting. I can tell you with certainty that I can type as fast as I like as long as I am holding the alt key (not the control key as stated above). Even if I hold down one of the keys that does not show up I _never_ get that character to show up.

I'll give the stv reset a try. Thanks for the tip.
