For those in North America, you can go here. Even if it were to just be used for its MPEG-2 encoding, it is cheaper than the Hauppauge equivalent (US$159 vs. US$199).

You mean for input from a cable box (or something similar), right? (Since there is no tuner.) This device was mentioned a couple times here in the past, but it didn't seem like it worked with SageTV at those times, unless I misunderstood those threads.

True. In my case, I would use it connected via S-Video, but you are right. It wouldn't help most people since they would really need a tuner.

As long as they knew what they were getting & just needed something to encode the svideo input, it wouldn't be a problem. Uh... I mean not a problem if/when SageTV could use such a device.

As for pci vs. USB2... that simply comes down to what your needs are. Sure, pci is cheaper & out of the way in the PC box, but USB2 encoders work quite well if there are no pci slots open & they seem to have fewer conflicts with other encoders. (Note that I'm not starting an argument about which is best, just noting that they both have their uses. PQ can be the same either way. WOW... I almost left out the word 'not' in that comment!!)
