Not sure what changed, the first rip I tried just froze, but the 2nd one worked.

I upgraded to the latest firmware and the HD-200 did not display subtitles on a blu-ray ripped disc.

Is there any other way to play HD DVDs by just loading the disc in an HD DVD drive or by copying the files to a folder on disc like you can do with BluRay's ?

You might be able to just point the at the right EVO file, but I've never tried that. There's no "HD DVD disc" support like there is for "Blu-ray Discs".

I'm just using eac2to to rip my HD-DVD's into mkv files.

I was doing that. But when BD support was released making BD show up as "DVD"s and supporting chapters, I changed my tackt. I rely on Sage treating DVDs differently as a way to separate my whole movies (which are all DVD/BD/HD DVD) from my misc video clips and trailers.

Ordered my HD200 tonight to start testing playback. Installed the Sage TV Trial on my Server 2008 host.

Is there a date yet for the TrueHD output via PCM? That is currently how I am getting TrueHD from VMC to my Samsung receiver.

I understand that right now iso's for BluRay playback are not supported. Is this something that is coming, is it currently supported for DVD's? I have all of my BluRay's currently in iso format, and I could extract them.

The bigger issue I have I will be running a dual CableCard VMC/Sage TV setup for some time. By converting all of the iso's into folder's, I'll be breaking my playback ability in VMC using Open Media Library. So, I suppose I'm looking to see if I can have my cake and eat it too

If there is no plan to support BluRay within ISO, then I'll have to just figure something else out

thanks!

Some quick questions about the bluray folder playback. I just upgraded to the HD200 and am having some difficulty getting playback to be successful.

Process:
  1. AnyDVDHD to rip the entire disk to HDD.
  2. BDinfo to determine the playlist for the main movie.
  3. Load the playlist from BDinfo into TsMuxer (1.8.35b with GUI) and remux to a new bluray folder structure (choosing only the video/audio/subtitle streams i want, and making sure i select custom chapters on the chapters tab so that chapters transfer).
Successes: Sage reconized them just fine as blurays and starts playback.

Issue 1: Have tried this so far on 2 blurays. On Casino Royale it starts playback from the beginning of the filer, at time = 00:00:00, but at chapter 9/16 (what sage thinks the chapter is). From there I can chapter skip succefully one chapter at a time (to the right time in the file) but the chapter number is wrong. Any ideas? could I be remuxing improperly. I ran BDinfo on the created BDMV folder and all seemed kosher, and used eac3to to extract the chapter and again all seemed ok.

Issue 2: On Quantum of Solace it starts playback from the begining of the file, but at time = 26:30:49 (26 hours, 30 min, 49 sec), and chapter 19/29. Navigating directly to the .m2ts file the time information (and timebar graphic) is correct and I can skip forward/back through the file (can not do that playing BDMV). Also on 2 different tries remuxing the file starting playback crashed the HD200 about 2 seconds into the file (played from BDMV folder structure or directly playing the m2ts file) requiring a power cycle.

Any ideas? I'm going to submit these to Sage but wanted to see if anyone has seen this.

Well I have to be doing something screwy with tsmuxer because i have no issues with playing back a direct rip (Not using tsmuxer to do any remuxing/reauthoring). I found the program fixclpi but that didnt seem to have any effect on the chapter/timeline issues. Its not ideal because in the end i dont want any of the extras but it does solve the problem for now i suppose.

For those using tsmuxer: what version? and what settings are you using?

I've used tsMuxeR on Casino Royale and have no issues with the muxed (to Blu-ray) version. I've never used the chapters but I have mine set to insert chapters every 5 mins which is the default. In fact all settings are at default. It's version 1.8.30b. Now that I see there's a .35b version out I'll have to give that a try.

Helen,
Thanks for the feedback... I will have to go back and try tsmuxer .30 and also try no chapters and chapters every 5min (default). and see if any of that makes a difference. Previously I was using tsmuxer v .19 and that had the same issue. Do you strip out the extra audio/video/subtitle tracks? or just copy the entire .m2ts?

If you load the .mpls file into tsmuxer it will auto fill in the chapter information on the chapter tab (you just have to click the custom chapters option). Admittedly i hardly ever use the chapters when watching but it is useful for ff'ing through quickly to your favorite parts, etc.

I do strip the movie down to just the movie and the AC3 audio track (or make an AC3 track w eac3to). AC3 is all that is compatible with all my TVs, etc.

The only thing that I do differently is mux directly from the disc. I don't copy to HDD first unless I have to make an AC3 track. Don't remember if Casino Royale had an AC3 track or not.

I want to try the chapter thing at some point. I ordered Quantum and it should be here mid next week, so maybe I'll try on that.

So dumb question, I have my HD200 on order, so I cannot test. By recreating the folder structure, does that still leave the BR content playable via TMT/PowerDVD8 on Sage TV hosts where you are using third party software? Or are we essentially destroying that playback in order to make HD200 playback work?

Thanks!

When you create a BDMV file structure for the HD-200, you can still make TMT (or Power DVD) the default player for m2ts files by file association. Then you can use Explorer to browse your network/PC, double click on the m2ts file in the BDMV/STREAMS folder (there is only one m2ts file, containing the whole movie, when muxed), and play with TMT/PDVD.

There may be other ways, but I've not tried any others.

I tried .30b and had the same issues with casino royale. The chapters are messed up (it starts at chapter 9, time = 0). Somewhere, something is corrupting the chapter chapter information. Weather that is tsmuxer or sage i am not sure. I think that it is probably tsmuxer because the full disc (copied to the HDD) plays fine without issue.

New issue i just noticed: When playing back the full disc sage reports the audio language correctly in the OSD, while in the disc mastered by TSremux it just ends up blank. Same thing goes for subtitles.

What Ive tried
Remove extra video/audio/subpicture tracks. Author bluray disc. I read somewhere that you should uncheck "add picture timing info" and "continually insert SPS/PPS" for ps3 playback compatibility and that it wasn't really needed. So i tried that, no such luck. Used the custom chapters for this.

Same as above but default chapters every 5min. Same problem (starts at a random chapter number).

Custom chapters, uncheck async io option on general page. Same problem.

.35b. remove extra video/audio/subpicture tracks, uncheck "add picture timing info", "continually insert SPS/PPS", "Use async I/O". Same problem (starts at chapter 2this time).

I believe this has something to do with tsmuxer. It has known issues with True-HD streams (that i thought were fixed). I will try downconverting to AC3 only and see what happens. So far all my testing is with direct stream copy (DTS-MA or True-HD).

Your Casino Royale disc must be different than mine. Mine has no True HD track, only LPCM and AC3 6ch. I'm muxing with 1.8.30b right now with defaults and AC3 track only - I'll post results as soon as it's done.

Well, I finished the remux. Same result as you except I get Chapter 14/29 as the first chapter. I've never noticed the chapter thing before so I went back to look at some of my earlier movies and they all start out with a chapter number other than "1". Curiouser and curiouser.

EDIT: I opened the Casino Royale folder on my hard drive using BDInfo, Clicked the View Report button at the bottom, scrolled down to the CHAPTERS: section and found chapters 1 through 29 listed with start times in 5 minute increments (the default I use)..... Sooooo, BDInfo sees all the chapters properly (and probably not a tsMuxeR issue), the HD-200 doesn't see chapters properly with the current firmware/software.

I'm glad you were able to reproduce the results and its not just me.

Interesting.... very curious... I didn't realize bdinfo had chapter information.. thats good to know, ill check that out... The reason I think it is a tsMuxer issue is because the original disc (fully ripped to the hdd) plays back fine on the hd200 (starts at chapter 1 and skips through correctly). Also after authoring with tsmuxer there is no audio stream information on the popup osd during playback (top one). full disk shows the correct audio stream info, reauthored disk shows nothing (empty string). but if bdinfo reads the disk correctly then maybe it is a sagetv/hd200 issue. i am at work right now but when i get home i will check to see what bdinfo says about my reathored disks.

I submitted my original post about this to sage last nite so we will see what they say on monday when they get back to work.

EDIT: BDInfo is reporting the correct chapter information (16 chapters at the correct times, same as original disk) and correct audio information. So maybe the problem is really in how sage is handling disks that have been reauthored.

Can the HD200 playback BluRay movies from a shared network drive on a computer that does not have SageTV software installed?

My SageTV server is an old computer with only IDE interfaces. My home/office PC however is a newer computer where I could install a SATA/BluRay drive and AnyDVD HD. If I purchase HD200, would I able to stream the main BluRay movie to the HD200?

Thanks,
-Topper
