Is there a way to tell MediaShrink to use the directory that is one up from the VIDEO_TS folder as the filename for the newly encoded file?

i.e. \\server\video\Flash of Genius\VIDEO_TS ---> \\server\video\Flash of Genius\Flash of Genius.mkv

EP,

I noticed that even if I tell it to encode the audio to aac if the input file is HD it will copy over the ac3 is there a way to force it to encode the audio?

Does anyone know how to call Videoredo from the command line to do a Quick Stream Fix?

Almost all of my recorded TV files are running into the "No Audio or Video" problem when called by SJQ. Just for good measure, I'm posting the log of one of the "NAOV" errors below. :sad trombone:

Code:
Tue Apr 06 21:35:13 EDT 2010: Starting task with priority 1/1/10

i seem to be having issues with shows over 2hrs with the 3.0b version. for example here monday night raw has been encoding all night over and over again never completing the conversion.

i have the log file but im not sure if it complete or not.

another file also didnt go thru (global...), even though both files will convert without issues in the v2.0

edit - i have to move the file out of the recordings folder and onto the network otherwise it will try and convert the file for a week constantly

added 2 more log file that seem to complete after who knows how many hourse. maybe a good idea to add time stamps infront of each line???

Clip: Hitman -- HD recording made on an HDHomeRun tuner. Original recording has 2 audio channels, 1 in English the other in Spanish.
Issue: No audio at all in the encoded file. CC is correctly included.

Clip: GeneSimmons -- SD recording made on an HDHomeRun tuner.
Issue: No CC text in the encoded file. Audio is ok.

Clip: Biography -- SD recording made on an HDHomeRun tuner.
Issue: No CC text in the encoded file. Audio is ok.

Clip: TheLongestNight -- SD recording made on an HDHomeRun tuner.
Issue: No CC text in the encoded file. Audio is ok.

Was hoping you could provide some guidance as to what I can do to fix these issues.

Many thanks
I'm sure evilpenguin is working on things as best as he can... but has anyone else had any luck at properly shrinking recordings that share the characteristics of the recordings listed above?

I am quickly running out of space and need to get some items compressed or deleted (and would prefer to compress).

Thanks!

I'm gonna be too busy in the next few weeks to do any Sage development, in the meantime, try out the older version, it should work just find on all of those videos.

Thanks ep.

Quick couple of questions... (I'm not very computer literate, so please pardon my ignorance) but when using v2.0c, I want to save everything in the mp4 format. As such, I change the Auto Encode.profile file from this line:

Code:
Encode CLI #3     =?>!(>mkv||avi||mp4<)<:>/mkv<?
to this:
Code:
Encode CLI #3     =?>!(>mkv||avi||mp4<)<:>/mp4<?
Which then outputs in the mp4 format. But the problem I'm having is that the Closed Captioned text is included when I shrink to the mkv format... but this text isn't included in the mp4 format.

Is there something I'm doing (or not-doing) that is causing mediaShrink to not include the CC text in the mp4 files?

Adding (all) subtitles when ripping DVD doesn't work

I just "discovered" MediaShrink and find it very interesting.

I thought I'd give it a try for ripping my Miami Vice-collection to x264 (mkv).

I copied all content from a disc to HD and dropped the folder onto MediaShrink. It started converting and I ended up with one file for each episode. Perfect and so far so good!
Unfortunately the files were with English subs only.

What do I need to change to get the Swedish subs included?

Thanks!

Bug Fixes!!! (finally)

Sorry it took me so long to get around to this, i've been crazy busy with work and a remodel the last few months. Hopefully this will fix all of the issues people have reported to me (minus the issue where Handbrake can't detect certain audio tracks properly as 5.1, that's a hard one).

ChangeLog:
  • Always picks 1st Handbrake track unless there is a conflict where two tracks have the same audio properties, in which case it'll encode them all (mostly the same as old way, but just tad bit smarter)
  • Added /manualTitles which will prompt you to enter the proper DVD titles rather then picking them automatically (Useful if you've found a DVD that the auto-logic doesn't work)
  • Added /subLang which you can enter the ISO subtitle code for your language (ex: eng (default), all (include all subtitles), swe (include Swedish subtitles), etc... http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php)
  • Fixed issue where sometimes CLI /acode settings weren't being awknowledged
  • Fixed crash where if MediaShrink deteced 4:3 content in HDTV it would incorrectly set /yres
  • Fixed a crash when using AC3/DTS audio but no autocrop
  • Updated overcrop detection upper AR threshold to 1.85 from 1.8
  • Re-enabeld ccextractor subtitle detection to handle rare cases where Handbrake misses them
  • Moved manual cc extraction above Handbrake to enable .srt in mp4 files
  • Put temp subtitle file in %TEMP% directory to work around Handbrake bug where if the .srt file's name is to long it'll truncate it

subtitles they want to extract (default: eng)

                              http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php

/manualTitles Prompts user to manually specify the DVD titles to encode

/forceTitle <#,#,...> By default mediaShrink will automatically attempt to
detect which titles to encode, however, sometimes it
is impossible. For those cases you can specify just
the DVD title numbers you want to encode sepeated by
                            commas.

### Commercial Cutting Options ------------------------------------------------------------

/cutComm Attempt to cut the commercials. If no edl or vprj
file exists it will attempt to make one using comskip

/onlyWhenVprj Only cut if a vprj file already exists (default)

did you have a chance to modify autocrop detection in this iteration?

Hello EvilPenguin,
I was curious if you had a chance in all the craziness to relax the autocrop detection.

If not, I was curious if there was a version of mediashrink that didn't crop so aggresively? Closely cropped is good for me ... I don't like overcropping so much.

It feels funny asking because I can remember someone asking you to crop more and more aggressively to get rid of the 'channel bugs' ... I don't mind the bugs as they fit on my LCD most times. Regza 16X9

On Ren & Stimpy - Big Baby ... it's cropping from 720X480 to 608X448.
There is video from top to bottom of frame and side to side it has maybe 16 pixels in black total. So we'll say maybe 32 pixels versus it cropping 112.

I want it to crop about 2-4% of the picture in this case ... but it's dropping about 21% of the picture (an extra 16-19%) and I realize that most times the action is in the middle of the screen ...

I was curious if part of the problem may be that I pre-cut the commercials before running mediashrink so I don't have the aspect ratios of the commercials mixed in when it tries to detect the size of the picture in the frame?

Thanks for your time,
Bobby

ps - I checked the log files ... it seems to find the crops pretty well (except for when the vertical crop isn't needed) ... but then it appears to scale the cropped video to 4:3 divisable by 16

X Integer (700 / 16) * 16 equals 688
Y Integer (480 / 16) * 16 equals 480

I would be happy with 688 X 480 in the case of this video and let SageTV do an Aspect fill to full screen ... or would SageTV mangle the Aspect Ratio ?

and from here it appears to scale it for 4:3 Resolution chopping 80 more pixels on the X-axis ... to balance the 32 pixels taken off the Y-Axis

Overcropping the Y-Axis leads to double Cropping on the X-Axis to maintain the aspect ratio.

Code:
      ? autoCrop: 10:470:10:710 (751 / 1500)
      ? Adjusted for Overscan: 10:470:10:710 (15 x 10)
      + Orignal Cropped Res: 700 x 460 (1.52173913043478)
+ Crop settings look ok to me!
        - cropX/xRes (0.955555555555556) > .72
        - cropY/yRes(0.933333333333333) > .72
        - 1.25 < cropX/cropY (1.53571428571429) < 1.8
        - abs(TopCrop - BottomCrop) (16 - 16) < 30
        - abs(RightCrop - LeftCrop) (15 - 17) < 30
      + Scaled for res for 4:3: 608 x 448 (1.35714285714286)
        - Cropped Res Divisable by 16: 608 x 448

Have you tried 3.0b or 3.0c, I added in some new protections to prevent overcropping.

Also, some of the crop you're seeing comes from the fact that 720x480 isn't a real aspect ratio (~1.5 vs. 1.333/1.778). So for 4:3 content, you can think of it like i'm automatically adjusting the video horizontally to 640 automatically to remove the need for wacky aspect ratio settings.

Edit: So what you're seeing in the log is...
  1. Determine the crop independent of AR.
  2. Chop off overscan
  3. Check to see if the crop is indicating 4:3 in 16:9 or letterboxed content
  4. Check the crop values to verify that it doesn't create strange aspect ratios or crops the top/bottom or left/right lopsided (ex: 10 from the top 100 from the bottom)
  5. Then, if the original video has a 4:3 AR, I scale it down so that the pixel AR is 4:3 also
  6. Finally, I automatically set the /yres to match what the cropped/scaled value should be and then Handbrake takes care of the rest.
If I did everything correctly, even though i'm cutting off ~80 extra pixels from the resolution, the actual picture should be getting scaled properly and you shouldn't be losing any actual content from that. Just the ~10 pixels from overscan plus anything additional that's detected (plus a few pixels here and there due math/rounding/scaling).

Found a few bugs with yesterday's code so I updated the download.

* Fixed bug where ac3/dts videos w/o autocrop would fail
* Fixed bug where subs were not being picked up and added to %%INPUT_SUB%%
* Fixed bug where the last DVD title was not showing up in title detection
* Increased upper limit of overcrop detection AR to 1.85 from 1.8

Thank you for all the hard work on this ...

I know I complain alot ...
(might have been why I choose Ren & Stimpy's Big Baby episode ... or that I'm converting all those episodes for testing and the next time a bestfriend comes over before the Rob Zombie concert and this was the latest file converted)

and thank you for your explanation ...

It was just that if I played the original and the converted both in seperate instances of mplayer ... and placed the converted on top ... the crop seemed more agressive than I was hoping for ... but then I guess I was comparing overscan to 'real' video

Bobby

Does this mean that for movies that are wider than 1.78:1, they will play properly in SageTV?

I ask as I was having a grand time using this (Thanks a bunch BTW!!!) and then when I went to play the rips on Sage, they were squished. I was playing fine on my Win7 box in WMP so I assumed things were fine.

I need to re-rip and re-encode a fair number of movies now because of this issue so please let me know if this latest version does indeed fix this issue.

I did all of my "failed" encoding with version 3.0b.

Thanks again!
Jason.

Care to post some screenshots? It may be cutting more aggressively than i'm thinking.

I've encoded quite a few 2.39:1 movies and they look just fine, can you take a screen shot of what you mean by squished? Also, what aspect ratio settings are you using in Sage, should be set to Source.

(Also, is this a PC client or extender. I've had problems where the PC client couldn't handle aspect ratio's properly with some decoders)

By squished, I mean the 2.35:1 is filling the 16:9 screen and making people tall.

I am using SageTVClient 6.6.2, Windows XP, FFDShow from about 1 month ago and the setting in Sage for aspect ratio is set to source. I set the playback decoders back to the Sage defaults and it still makes everything tall.

Can you download mediaInfo and check the video attributes, I bet the video's fine but Sage isn't working right.

Here's an example with version 3d of the cropping ...

Hello EvilPenguin ...
I choose a scene with some brickwork in the background to do a better still comparison.
Normally I'm running the video and could tell the size difference quite dramatically.

It's over cropping a little now ...
and when I lined the still images up on the bottom ...

I realized I missed it earlier, that it was overcropping a little and resizing it a little too, which made it look even more aggressive.
I was hoping for close cropped but no picture loss and I realize now that it was less 'picture loss' and more pixel loss.

I missed that it was reszing the picture smaller too and I was thinking it was all crop and no resize ... Sorry

I feel bad about missing the resize ... most of my setups at work are within a few thousands of an inch and a few tenths of a degree bending metal ... and I can't tell a quarter inch difference in where Stimpy's head lands on the screen watching a running video side by side

Here is the info. I also agree that there is likely nothing wrong with the encode as I redid one with 3d and it is still squishy facing everything when played in Sage.

I am starting to think that this particular client is being a pain. I will also try with another and see what the deal is.
