GMA3100 video chipset?

I could "almost" care less about whether the "server" can view the files in real-time. However, I don't understand how the capture/playback works. Does the video card in the SERVER matter, or just the playback devices?

The idea would be to have a server running sagetv, using one of the HD extenders (hd200) and an existing tivo (hacked, for SD content only). I doubt the Tivo should have any impact on anything, just mentioning it for completeness.

Server - SageTV, core2duo at minimum, 2gigs of RAM (4 if you tell me I need it), XP pro 32-bit (unless 64-bit helps), on-board gma3100. Connected to a 100mb switch

HD200 - connected to a 720p HDTV. 100mb wired switch
old tivo - connected to 32" standard def. 100mb wired switch.

In short, will the graphics card on the SERVER have any impact on the quality, playback on the client systems (I realize the SERVER'S playback could be impacted), or anything else involved with the coding/decoding/whatever?

The server's playback capabilities will have no effect on your clients. If you wanted to you could run your server headless once it is set up. Capture and playback are two completely separate things.

Your proposed server specs are more than adequate. There is no real need for more than 2 gigs or a 64 bit os. That being said, I often apply the old hot rodder's rule to computers: If a little is good then more is better and too much is just right.
