People using Girder remote defaults

Hi,
just wondering with people who use Girder to control their Sage and other apps also, which is the default remote that was used? OR does everyone learn the even onto individual remotes.
I want to be able to use girder to control everything, currently I am using Sage's built in support for USB-UIRT but I would like girder to take over (even though at present all works great and I am afraid of screwing it all up). My main worry right now is getting girder to change cable box channels, how does this work with Sage? How does the apps decide if a signal needs to be sent to cable box or if cards internal tuner is to be used? Still confused about this.
