SageClient freeze on playback

For the first time, I just installed SageClient on my laptop to test it for the 10 day trial. (Today is day #2). Yesterday, I couldn't even get it to acknowledge the server computer. Today, after more testing, I restarted both computers, and that seemed to do the trick. Next problem.

The interface is 100% available on the laptop client from my test server, and I can manipulate data (schedule, browse) the same from both. However, selecting any recorded show brings up the OSD, black screen, and locks up the window. (I never tried LiveTV.) Both computers are inside my f/w, so I don't think there are any ports to blame. I have Elecard drivers (NOT Hauppauge, can't install them w/out a card in the laptop) on my laptop, and it can play MPEG-1/2 files (w/ Media Player).

My new computer parts start arriving around Wed, and I wanted to get this test system stable before I start my official s/w purchases. Any advice on how to get these two working together?

I've seen 5 other SageClient threads start/finish since posting this. Anyone have any ideas on my specific issue? Thanks!

Do you have any other decoders laying around that you can install? Any software you got included when you purchased a DVD drive? Try those. Also make sure in the video options not to specify default but the actual decoder. If you're already doing that for Elecard then try default. Try using overlay for the renderer and turn off 3d acceleration. Then if that works try enabling 1 at a time. Try live TV instead of already recorded files. I know alot of times laptops don't have very powerful video subsystems and that may be part of the problem. Does this laptop have a DVD drive and can it play those alright?

Three decoder options: default, Intervideo DVD, Elecard. Overlay and VMR. Recorded shows and live TV. Tried multiple permutations, I think one with each (but maybe missed one).

This laptop has a DVD drive, and its historical function has been to be a media server, pre-Sage. It can play DVD's, divx, xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2, etc. with no issues, whether the file is local or on the LAN. I use multiple players, including WMP v6.4, 9.0, BSPlayer, Media Player Classic, just to name the main ones.

The entire Sage interface seems to be 100% compatible; the ONLY function not working is the actual file playing. It just hangs.

I use netlimiter to track bandwidth between programs, and the SageClient process initially gets good bandwidth, but drops off within a few seconds. I'm behind a firewall, and have full file sharing on. I can play the actual files in a media player (any listed above) and stream it just fine, but not through the client.

It says I have 3 days left before it expires. I guess I can whip up a new win2k computer on demand to try again if not in the 3 days, but I really want it to work on this laptop, since this is the destination target machine to actually buy the software for.

If I buy the s/w and it never works, does Sage have either a refund policy or support until it works?

Thanks again for any help you can all give!

You say you're behind a FW, does that mean you have one running on your Sage Client/Server box, or that they are both behind it? If it is running on one of the boxes, have you tried disabling it just to see?

One/all of the media players plays Sage files, correct. If so, which decoders does it default to? Which renderer does it use? Have you tried those with Sage?

Just throwing out ideas here.

ToonGal -

I'm trying to gather more info about this problem to feed back to the support team in another thread. Could you jump over to that post and give us the info requested there?

This thread was created when I tried the v1.4.10 version, NOT the v2 client program. The thread died when nobody (from Frey) answered if there was either support or a refund if/when I bought the client and could never get it to work. As a result, I dropped the idea of the client.

Ironically, now that I've moved to v2, I was curious to know if the client would work for me on v2. I haven't tried it on my laptop yet (don't want to start the 15 day trial until I need to), but on 2 other test systems (which I could easily reformat and/or restore) it worked just fine.

The specs on the 2 test systems were a Dell 650 mhz laptop and my old PVR machine which was a generic 466 mhz desktop. Worked with Elecard, InterVideo, etc. with no issues. The client is no longer really relevant to me as I'm no longer looking to have another 24/7 computer running just as a client. Waiting if/when a MediaMVP is ready.

Sorry I wasn't able to help you, but will add to your other thread if/when I try and/or have problems with the v2 client. Good luck to you, hun. Hope it works out.

In my situation, I am (normally) running Win98SE on both the server and client. I don't really like (or even want) to use XP if I can avoid it.

With Win98SE on both, I had no problems with v1.4. Sorry to hear you did, but may v2.0 will work better for you.

V2.0 works fine on the server end here under Win98SE, but the client end always locks up.

Oh, and you don't have to have the client running 24/7 either. Can turn it on/off whenever you want. The server does not care if the client is there or not. It just feeds out a video stream if/when a client asks for one.

Hope you have better luck with v2.0 than you did with v1.4. It's a great program (just has a couple bugs to be worked out yet).
