Help: DigiGuide + FloppyDTV + Sage = FRUSTRATION!

Hi All

Yest again I've given SageTV another chance and yet again I end up tearing my hair out. I have a little free time so thought I'd try to get a simple case working: Freesat channels in Sage.

My Setup: Windows XP SP3, SageTV 6.5.9, 2x FloppyDTV S2 tuners, Sky dish Quad LNB.

I followed these steps;

1. Fire Up Sage, Add 1x Tuner and scan to generate a frequency file.
2. Edit frequency file to remove non-freesat channels
3. Purchase DigiGuide and set up for DG2XML export
4. Create Freesat Channel guide in DigiGuide
5. Run DG2XML
6. Run XMLTV Importer
7. Create Lineup based FloppyDTV frq file created at 2
8. Run through all channels fixing all the 'no data' assignments
9. Export data from XMLTV to Sage
10. Open SageTV Again
11. Delete Tuner and add it again. Assign XMLTV lineup to tuner.

Having completed the above, I commenced viewing. About half of the channels resulted in a 'no signal' result when tuned. Oh Oh.

Further research online revealed the well hidden wiki complete with freesat frequency list. (http://sagetv.wikia.com/wiki/Freesat_frequency_list)

I opened my device .frq file in SageTV directory and pasted thaty list in. I went through the above process again from step 6. This time, the only channel that displays is BBC1 (it did not work the first time). EVERYTHIG else displays no signal.

I have removed all the *_overrides entries from the Sage properties file.

What on earth is going on here? How can it be so difficult to get this working? The process, once pieced together, is straightforward. Is it Sage? Is it Hardware? Is it me?

All assistance appreciated.

Peter

Found the problem after much much head scratching. There were incorrect line breaks in the .frq file which meant that only the first line was being read.

I find this level of messing outrageous to do what is the core function of the software (tuning in TV channels with an EPG).

The problem is, and always has been, that the "core function" of the software is using the built-in EPG in North America. When used without that EPG it's more, uh, challenging.

Yes, that is a real PITA. I spent hours looking for the same issue the other day. Basically I always use notepad on those files now

Regards,

Nick.

Do double check that the frequencies are correct. That wiki hasn't been updated basically since January when it was created. I re-did the .frq list on my server 2-3 weeks ago & discovered quite a few channels had changed frequencies. I don't recall what they were off the top of my head but I will append my .frq list to this post. I did try to update the wiki but it wanted me to edit the raw HTML rather than presenting me with a nice WYSIWYG editor so I left it as it was. I am using Safari on a Mac which presumably has something to do with it.

Hi,

I'll have a look at the wiki when I get some time over the next couple of weeks and update the main .frq file although the data should be mostly OK, I've maybe had to change a couple of the channels in my .frq file since setting up the wiki but not that many.

Ta,

David

It would be cool to link the frq files to the wiki rather than listing the file contents in HTML. This was the cause of my problem. Copying the HTML data into my own frq file brought in incorrect line breaks, hence the source of the frustration in the oriinal post.
