Help please. What file extension is used for HD freesat recordings ? .mp4?

Help please. What file extension is used for HD freesat recordings ? .mp4?

Hi

I was wonder what file extension bbcHD and itvHD freesat broadcasts are recorded with. ie .mpg .mp4 .avi .mkv .ogm etc.

I'm asking as I need to know if my favourite media players will work with the dvb-s2 file format.

As much detail as possible would be good thanks ie codecs needed etc

Thank you

Jon

By default sagetv stores all recordings in .mpg files(Program Stream).

For HD shows that would be h264 in the .mpg container.

There's an option though to switch to .ts (transport stream) but it's not recommended.

Thanks Lucus

Thats really interesting..

I'm still really on a learning curve with these h246 file format so please forgive me if this next question is really dumb.

Are these files like mpeg2 files except with larger aspects ratios ( ie any player/codec that can handle mpeg2 with dimensions 1280x720 1920x1080 should be able to play them ) OR is a seperate mpeg4 codec needed.

I appreciate your help with this.

Thanks

Jonny G

H.264 is a variety of the MPEG4 CODEC so you require a player that will support these files.
