Dish Network Dual Tuner TV2 IR Control.

While googling away this morning, I came across this little GEM from Dish. They have finally fixed their glaring shortcoming with their dual-tuner receivers, and now have a workaround for allowing IR control of TV2. This comes in the form of a converter box that receives the IR commands, and transmits the UHF-Pro over COAX into the UHF-In port on the receiver. The designed it to work with the slingbox (which they partially own), and with consumer IR remotes, but it should open up the dual tuner capabilities to sage with USB-UIRT as well.

Of course, I am unable to test this out, as I have long parted with my dual tuner boxes for multiple 211's...

Anyone willing to bite the bullet and give this a demo run?

I just switched over to Dish from Comcast and bought the TV2 IR converter when I ordered. I just got my USB-Uirt in today and after 4 hours of fighting I got TV1 IR code for 0 working right on my 222k by programming the IR code for 0 into my Harmony remote, then training from that.

Unfortunatly I seem to have hit a brick wall with the ir converter though. the Uirt can control the 222k just fine if I use the lrnhelper program to learn/test codes from the tv2 remote. but when I go into sage and test the codes, the Uirt's red light flashes, but nothing happens.

Anybody have any suggestions? Will sage not let you control multiple set tops using only one Uirt?

Sage certainly works fine with multiple boxes and a single USB-UIRT. You say it works in lrnhelper, but not in sage? Are you using the same IR Codes from lrnhelper in sage? Those codes are the only infor sent to the USB-UIRT, so there shouldn't be a difference between what program is sending them.

Yes, after not having any luck with learning the codes through sage I built my IR file using the lrnhelper tool. each command works fine in lrnhelper, but for some reason does nothing in Sage.

I am running in service mode and I saw some mention of this as messing up for other people, however since TV1 is working great, I can't imagine that being my problem. The only other thing I haven't tried is a reboot, but again since TV1 is working flawlessly, I can't see a reboot helping.

May be time for me to talk to sage support for the first time I'll post my IR file later, just so someone can have a look. does sage create any kind of IR debug file?

Edit: Also I'm running Server 2003 (which I think means sage support may not help me ) but again, the blaster works with the first boxthrough sage, so I don't think its a compatability problem.

sounds more like a configuration problem somewhere in sage. Either the .IR file has an error in it, or something is screwy with the way the 2nd tuner is set up in the properties file.

My Ir file is all goofed up because I tried to train from Sage, so I'll post it tonight when I get home and rebuild it. Attached is my .properties file if you want to take a look. Its entirly possible somthing could be fouled up as I've been using Sage for a loooong time, and I see mention of some capture devices/channel lineups I don't have anymore.

Current tuners are:
Hauppauge HVR-1600, tuning Memphis OTA Digital
Hauppauge PVR-500, Tuning Dish USA TV1 on composite input, and Dish USA TV2 on composite input #2
Attached Files
File Type: txt Sage.properties.txt (128.7 KB, 235 views)

Try this ir file. I could not get the USB-UIRT to work with my Dish 211k until I found this file in the Sage forums. Put it in the following folder

SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver
Attached Files
File Type: zip Dish6000USBUIRT.zip (444 Bytes, 269 views)

Thanks I tried your file but it controls TV1 and not the IR converter on TV2

Interestingly when I do try your file with my TV2 input, the blaster works, but controls TV 1 on the box. but switching back to my tv2.ir file nothing happens, so it seems liek there must be something with my ir file. I think tonight I'll try renaming the file, since the codes are copy/pasted from lrnhelper I can't see them as being the problem.

What remote address does the TV2 use? I have address 1, 2 and 3 learned, and I can send it to you. Mine have worked flawlessly for years. (ViP-211, but all dish remotes are the same).

Pull up the System Info screen on the STB. On the bottom it should display the remote addresses for TV1 and TV2.

Played with it some more this weekend and still no luck I dug up a MCE tranceiver I didn't even know I had and I'm going to try the LM plugin for sage. We'll see if that yield any results.

EDIT:Or not...looks like there are no 2003 drivers available for the MCE transceiver *sigh*

EDIT 2 Well, I finally got it working, but not with the Uirt. I pulled and old PVR-150 with a blaster out of storage and sacrificed my SCSI card to install it. TV 1 is bieing tuned by the Uirt, TV 2 by the hauppauge blaster, working like a charm.

You can try giving this a shot.. This is my DishNetworkAddress2.ir file. It has been working well for a LONG time.

EDIT: I've found some sort of quirkiness with the way the addressing is done with the IR converter... this is from the dbstalk forums:
Quote:
If the Converter is used to control TV2 with a Slingbox, and you also want independent control of TV2, you must set the Converter to TV2 and set the remotes as follows:

TV1's address is set to anything but address 1
TV2's address must be 1 and the Band A/B switch inside the battery compartment on the TV2 remote control must match the A/B switch on the Converter
