Doesn't it seem expensive to control a cable box?

I mean... $40 for the ACT IRT blaster... that's pretty obscene, just to control my cable box. The remote will get taken care of with the Hauppage remote, so I'd love to see if there's an alternate method of doing this that anybody knows of.

Thanks!

If the cable box has a serial input, you may be able to control the box through it.

Obscene? Don't know about that. Actisys is $40. USB-UIRT is $50. Seems to be the going rate for these devices. I use my USB-UIRT with Girder so I can use it to turn on the TV, the amp, and change the channel on the cable box. If you don't have a serial connection on your box I don't know of another way to do it.
