How to set up Place Shifter for use with SageTV WHS?

I'm running SageTV Media Center for WHS on my windows home server. I would like to use SageTV Place Shifter to access SageTV via the internet when outside my home network. I've installed Place Shifter on the computer (my office computer) outside my home network. I'm able to get into SageTV but get a message that stops me in my tracks and says: "No Place Shifter users are available. A new user must be created on the server, or an existing user must be enabled, before login is possible." Screen shot attached. When I use Place Shifter at home while inside my home network, I do not have this problem.

So, how do I do this? I can't find a way to do that with Sage WHS.

Thanks in advance

You need to create a placeshifter user ID and password. (Optional pw) It's in Detailed Settings from any client. And as long as you entered the placeshifter license on your WHS you should be fine. Consult the manual for exactly where in detailed settings you create the PS ID and PW. (I believe when you're on your internal network the login is not required.)

Thanks. The SageTV Server license comes with a Place Shifter license according to screen but I don't see an option to set up the Place Shifter license when I access SageTV Server via the WHS console. See screen shot.

I don't run WHS, but I would think you would enter the key next to the word "Key:" and hit register? Do I not understand?

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that earlier and it appears that is for the SageTV Server software key. It had no effect other than to say your software is registered. Nothing else changed and I see no way to set up a place shifter user in SageTV Server.

You don't setup the placeshifter ID and password on WHS. Bring up SageTV on a client. (PC, HD200 or placeshifter on your LAN.) Go into Detailed Settings. I can't remember the menu choices but one of them will lead you to setting up your placeshifter ID.

Don't confuse setting up the license with setting up a Placeshifter ID which was the problem in your first posting. Your SageTV license email should have the placeshifter license number which you enter thru the WHS console. Two separate processes for two different issues. If you didn't already setup the license then you would see "trial" all over your placeshifter screen when you use it at home.

The SageTV software license is a whole 'nother issue and is asked for when you first fire up SageTV. You can do this by executing sagetv.exe on the Windows Home server. (It will ask if you want to enter the key and it will ask for your Name and License number.)

Thank you. Ahh, now I understand how to set up the place shifter ID. I'll give that a try.
