HD-200 HDMI outputs only PCM stereo

Hi all

Just got a HD-200. So far very happy. The only problem is that the HDMI outputs only PCM stereo despite the extender audio output is set to bitstream.

I've tried with several DVD-rips. The tos link outputs DD5.1 just fine but I get only pcm stereo from the hmdi. What am I doing wrong?

Any help appreciated thanks.

I may have this wrong so someone else will need to confirm, but I believe the answer lies in this quote from a HD-200 review on Geektonic

"Because the HD200 HDMI port is HDMI1.2, there is no bitstream output of Dolby Digital True-HD, LPCM or DTS-MA playback. SageTV personnel are reportedly working on adding TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding down the road for the HD200, but there is no guarantee at this point whether that will happen so for now assume it is not possible until we see otherwise. "

Edit: Do a search of the forum for Dolby Digital HDMI and there is a ton of posts relating to this. It could be something as simple as your TV can't decode the audio properly.

He does not appear to be trying to output HD bitstreaming, just plain old AC3 that the HD200 is capable of bitstreaming. To do this over HDMI you have to do something wierd like connect via HDMI but choose optical in setup. I don't remember for sure but there are lots of posts here and it is probably in the manual.

Thanks both of you for your time.

It is true that I try to output "only" AC3, so its not due to the 1.2 ver. limits. I have also searched this forum and found that setting audio output to bitstream and not pcm should do the trick.

However not in this case. I output to a DVDO A/V processor and it recognize the DD5.1 from the extenders optical link but tells me that the extender output pcm from the hdmi.

The audio options are

1 - stereo RCA
2 - Bitstream optical/hdmi
3 - PCM optical/hdmi

Please send debug logs to support when you have selected bitstream and try to play back a file containing ac3 or dts 5.1, that should be the right option.
