Screen Saver

One thing I have noticed. Using the Creative software my screen saver is disabled. Using SageTV, the screen saver remains in effect. Is there a setting for this?

In the properties file there's an option to disable the screen saver and power management. It's something like disable_ss_and_pm
Just set it to true and it'll disable the screen saver when SageTV is running.

Is this only valid when the GUI is up, or even when sleeping?

Is it likely it could ever be just while the GUI is up? I'd like to disable screensavers while watching a show, but if I put sage to sleep, I'd want the PC to use it's normal screensaver behavior. I like having Serene Screen's 3d aquarium running during parties, when I might be streaming audio.

Wow, I was just about to ask the same question as Hocky. It would be nice if this were a selectable option, but editing the properties file is OK. However, I agree with JJarmoc. The disabling of the screensaver should only occur when actually viewing TV, but when SageTV is in sleep mode should allow the power management/screensaver to operate normally.

Screen Saver

Yes, It would be nice to have it in place when only viewing TV.

I'll change it so when you put SageTV to sleep it re-enables the screen saver if you've selected to disable it.

Ahem... hate to interrupt the happiness here, but it's not clear to me why we would want the screen saver to be disabled while we're on the guide or any other UI screen. Can you change it so that the screensaver is only disabled when video is playing back? Until then, I'm going to look into some clue that Girder may find in the window as to whether Sage is on the playback screen or a UI screen.

Regards,
Stuart

It's come to my attention that I get no screen saver from SageTV since I started running it in a non-maximized window. Can SageTV not try to outsmart me here, please? I can see why one might think that nobody would want an app-specific screen saver to kick in if the window isn't maximized, but unfortunately I'm actually using the window as if it was maximized, but I keep it not-quite maximized due to overscan issues.

Thanks,
Stuart

You could just maximize the window and then use the overscan settings in the properties file. It'll give you the same effect.

Jeff, I have tried repeatedly to get the proper settings with a maximized window. I cannot get it to work for me. What I would need SageTV to do is "underscan" both the UI and the video frames the same amount, and to do so without going off-center. I never found a combination of settings that would make this happen.
