Suggestions for naming specials for BMT and keeping them in cronolgical order?

I was starting to watch the series Heroes via SageTV and I ran into a problem. As it is now I have BMT working with my library setup.

My problem is the special episodes. I learned today that the way to get BMT to recognize them for metadata is to use season 0.

What I want to do is to name the episodes so that BMT can identify them but that they will also appear in the file system view in chronological order, just like the TVDB has them.

Lets ignore my specific episode naming, because I figured out howto adopt the java regex and have it parse my episode names without difficulty. So lets, instead, use the naming you are all probably using. For example, I want my heroes season 3 to look like:

-->Heroes - S03E08
-->Heroes - S00E06- Destiny 01 Let Us Pray
-->Heroes - S03E09
-->Heroes - S00E07 - Destiny 02 Intervention

The destiny episodes happen in between the Season 3 episodes but they are in "season 0" via BMT.

In file view this would sort the files like:

-->Heroes - S00E06 - Destiny 01 Let Us Pray
-->Heroes - S00E07 - Destiny 02 Intervention
-->Heroes - S03E08
-->Heroes - S03E09

It is not in correct order and I would have to go and check the episodes to watch them in the correct order.

Of course a simple database sort by field air date would solve this problem, but this program makes database manipulation difficult and impossible for someone trialing the app.

Is there a way to name it so that it sorts in file system view (or any view, any view at all) correctly, but gives BMT the right info to grab fan art and metadata?

Maybe something like:

Heroes - S03E08a, S00E06 - Destiny 01 Let Us Pray?

I tried that and BMT skipped it, couldn't understand the syntax. I tried a bunch of different permutations of this but BMT didn;t like any of them.

So what do you all do? Is there a plugin I am missing? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!

Stuckless / other BMT users will have much higher likelihood of reading this if it is in the BMT thread. I think you should post there.

However, I agree in principle that specials need a better naming convention in the filename.

If the original air date is set correctly in the .properties file though you should just be able to sort by that in SageTV ui. I forget if you can do this with the default video library or if the mediafile needs to be a TV file. TVExplorer will sort by original air date if it is set in the properties file regardless what type of mediafile (normal mediafile or TV mediafile). Link in my signature if you want to check it out.

Thanks, I will be trying out your plugin, looks great! I am still far from that point with SageTV though. I am still trying to get the basic SageMC, BMT and PVR working right and exploring the client system. However, that sounds like a good work around to this problem.

I took your advice and posted a link to this thread in the BMT thread. I hope that doesn't cross any forum rules.

Thank you again!
