PlayOn/NetFlix - can use w/remote?

I see that EvilPenguin has developed what looks like a plugin that, with a PlayOn account, allows one to watch NetFlix streamed movies as well as Hulu content on Sage. Problem is I can't find an overall description of the plugin, just the thread with links to the updates and bug reports. Is this a plugin that displays the video directly in Sage or does it open up a web browser or something? Reason I ask is I want to know can I use it with just a remote on a television or will I need a keyboard? And will it work on a MediaMVP extender?

It just adds PlayOn content to the online services menu and they play just like youtube/podcasts inside Sage. And I've heard reports that it works successfully via the MVP.

Can one pause, go back, for forward while streaming?

I take it comskip wont work on this?

Can HD contect 1080i be streamed, like from Netflix without interuptions? Can it be buffer sufficiently to offset times of no data stream?

Yes, Yes, and Kinda.

Basically how it works is it opens up the Hulu/Netflix Flash/Silverlight player in a virtual browser and starts encoding the playback live so you can think of it like starting watching/recording a TV/Movie via a tuner. You can't fast forward more than you've recorded but you can rewind/pause/ffwd within the par

Slightly related to my first answer, I think that PlayOn encodes the video at 720x480 regardless of the actual videos resolution. This is just a limitation of how PlayON works and I don't know if they have any plans to support HD in the future.

I have used Playon successfully with the old MVP's. (well I should say I did until Hulu decided to muck with things last week)... going to patch Playon now...

BTW, on the old MVP it does not fill up the whole screen.. you'll get 1/4 inch black bars on either side. Not a big deal.

Thanks for the info. Definitely going to give it a shot. Will it stream Netflix movies? My WAF would increase dramatically if it will LOL

I have it working on both the HD200 and MVP devices. It works much better on the HD200, but the MVP is acceptable. The image isn't quite right on the MVP -- in my case, I think it cuts off a little bit of the top, right and left sides, and has a black bar at the bottom.

Netflix movies work fine, but I don't think Netflix TV shows work yet. This is a known issue.
