Lola Remote/UIRT $6

http://www.x10.com/techliving1/index_lola.htm

X10 has this limited time offer where they are giving away a remote and USB IR Tranceiver...all you have to do is pay for shipping ($6). This product is supported by GIRDER...

Link on slickdeals: http://slickdeals.net/#p4519

Anyone have this setup or can comment on it? I just bought it hoping that the remote works better than my hauppage one...right now my hauppage remote conflicts with my tv.

It looks like an interesting cheap option to try out on my client, which currently has no IR receiver... but I'll have to read about it some more to see if its own software is configurable, since I don't want to have to buy Girder too.

If it is RF only, then you can't use it to control other devices, such as your TV, stereo, etc. (But it looks like it has buttons for those devices...)

If you want to control other equipment & stop the conflict with your TV, I think the least you would have to spend otherwise is around $40 for a JP1 capable remote & the JP1 cable. Then you could program it to control whatever you want & probably use a different RC5 code for the Hauppauge receiver that doesn't conflict with the TV.

ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/manuals/lola-om.pdf :: Manual
http://www.x10.com/instructions/mk10a.htm :: Setup Instructions

For 6 dollars I didn't feel this was bad...heck the cable that goes for your speaker out of your sound card to RED/WHITE is worth a few dollars in itself. The manual shows the ability to program it with codes and also with other remotes as it is a learning remote.

This is the manual for the UIRT....it says it sends through RF, but the Lola manual shows that the "remote" can program TVs and Cable Boxes.
ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/manuals/cm19a-is.pdf

I don't know how long this freebie deal will last...but it is one per customer.

Thanks for those links! I haven't had time to look for those things, so that's a good time saver for me.

And: right -- for $6, I don't think I can resist playing with it.

Here is a closeup of the remote....you could program some of those buttons for your music library...like "Album, Artist, Genre, Track"

I'm assuming they want my email address... so I set up a dummy account to be deleted when the transation is over. (Provided I actually order it.)

I still haven't had time to read things closely... can you configure it to control other software, or would you have to use IRAsistant/Girder for that? Meaning: I just want to control SageTV on my client, not run their music program. (I never paid enough attention to the ATI Remote Wonder (equal to X10 remote)threads here to know if that works directly w/SageTV somehow, either.)

If you can use the ATI software and plugins it will work great with Sage. I ordered one just to see if that was true. I wonder if I need the ATI software to load the plugins or if it has something else.

Here is a quote from the thread that Scriber found:

==================================================
Once I realized that the X10 Lola remote was just a re-packaged ATI
Remote Wonder, there were all sorts of plugins available. I wound up
using this one for IRAssistant.

http://www.irassistant.com/dotcom/v_...oad/ATIDrv.zip

And there's a whole list of them (for Girder and everything else) at
this site:

That driver still needs the ATI software loaded according to the IRAssistant website. That is the part I am not sure about.

This will also work with Girder and the X10 plugin.

I got it today. Looks nice.. comes with like $15 in free video cables and adapters (that I don't see the point to, but anyway).

Off to go buy some batteries for it (only thing it didn't come with).

So what software do you need to install to get Lola working with Sage? And anything you need to configure in Sage?

I got mine today....I also found a FREE version of girder. Yeah, it's free. It was an earlier version of girder that says it is free for personal use in the release notes...must have been before they started charging for it..version 3.29. I'm not sure how to make it work with Sage though, not a girder man... : / I did program it to work with my tv though, so that's a plus.

Forget Lola its crap.

I used the ATI remote wonder drivers.. works with sage some, but only a few buttons. Need to figure out remote wonder + girder to make use of all these buttons...

yeah...the remote is propriety in where they force all the special buttons to be used only for their software. It's not a true learning remote in where you can program all the buttons because of this but I'm sure you can get around this in girder for Sage.....my thinking is that girder will capture the output of those buttons and we can make those be used by sage. I could be wrong if that's how girder would work for this.

If someone figures this out...they gotta post step by step instructions.

Installing this driver allowed me to use the dial pad in sage:
http://www.ati.com/support/products/...=15&submit.y=7

You can press the red/yellow/green buttons and assign functions to them through the ATI program. But to get the Rec/Play/FF/Rew buttons it's going to take Girder and the X10 plugin?

EDIT:
This program is great if you have a SERIAL receiver for your remote....lola is usb. : /

Here is another pcremote software program I stumbled across, I have yet to give a try:

Hey TunaBoo, I will buy that remote from you (or trade)
PM me and make me an offer, I thought that would be easier than me offering the $6 dollars + shipping to me that you paid for it since that seems low

Also for anyone that wants the free version of Girder
here you are

http://www.tobyto.pe.kr/data/2004/01...girder329b.exe

you may want to hurry before someone here removes it

If I get rid of my remote, I won't have one. It is my only remote
