Cool, glad you all like it because if you didn't it would be tuff

We did discuss using some sort of music after biallo's suggestion and whilst for the first couple of goes it would be quite amusing the effect would soon become boring and you'd end up turning it off. So from my point of view it wont be happening.

Cheers

Ben

Sorry I forgot to say, I can't remember who it was....I was trawling google a few months back for royalty free soundtracks and that popped up. If I remember or see it again I'll let you know.

This is so impressive, very well done. I just hope this will work for other areas of Sage: Music and Photos. Hope it is not that much to ask ;-).

Most views have some sort of cover flow or wall effect but not to the extent that movies has.

While we're at it we might as well show another video of cover flow examples we made a few months back to go with the newer one posted earlier. This screen exists in Ortus but currently isn't avaiable from the menu system and may never see the light of day. Some of you will already have seen this as it was posted elsewhere sometime ago. Also ignore the date at the end of the clip as that may not be quite true.....times running out

BOY!, this project is slick!!

BTW, how's the performance on HD200's with all that bling? These screen captures look down right amazing, and even your own logo.

Keep up the great work and effort. I hope you guys know just how much we really do appreciate what you've already done.

After watching both those vids...

1. Wow...
2. I don't like the film background popping up all the time... i'd rather it be a solid background if there is no fanart. The film strip is almost too intrusive, especially since it in itself doesn't add anything to the experience...

Very, very slick.

Watching the videos with the inevitable gaps in fanart/posters reminded me of something nice that Vista/7MC does when there is no picture to display. It selects a random coloured background for each missing video or cd (from a set of theme colours not completely random) and puts the title of the movie/cd on the cover in text.

You can see the effect in the following screenshot if you look carefully:

It's much less jarring than seeing the broken looking empty covers and imparts useful information.

I'm not sure if they're generating these faux covers on the fly or generating standin graphics which are replaced when real cover art is available.

You would probably only want to do this for posters rather than fanart.

Perhaps BMT would be the best place for this to go as generated covers could then be used universally.

Mick.

Some of those views like the slanted wall are not going to be extender compatible.

The extender cannot handle 3d animations.

Would a firmware update make it possible?

Lets just say its no worse for me than SageMC or the default UI List views are ultra quick, I can scroll though 700 movies in under 5 seconds with pageup/down. Cover flow is quite quick and with the same database it takes about 15 - 20 seconds to scroll through, the Shelf view is quicker than cover flow and takes alittle over 10 seconds to scroll though. I've had mixed results with the 2D Wall view, sometimes it quickish and other times its painfully slow.

In which view? The wall view has options to change the theme to black or white. Its also pretty easy to add your own image to the relevent background theme folder. Also in the wall view there are options to change the transparency of the unfocused items....in that first video they are set really low. You can also change the transparency of the information panels.

Hmmm, not a bad idea apart from when you have titles which are too long for the missing poster and they end up squished or missing bits. Having a random coloured image isn't a bad idea, I'll have to think about that.

We dont use BMT so this isn't really possible at the moment.

Skye is correct, the 3D walls wont work for extenders and no firmware upgrade will make this possible......what you didn't see in the first video is the 2D wall view which is for extenders.

Cheers

Ben

Yeah I do This in mymovies I use a blank cover and put the title on it, but like Ben said long titles start to look funny but it is better than nothing I guess.

I've always been entirely happy with my extender-experience, but I think that having some really cool graphics like this might make me think again.

Hardware client...

Maybe we should begin working on a Known Good list (in another thread), maybe it's not so hard anymore. Might be more about the best way to get BD working with full HD audio which is probably more about drivers, decoders and settings.

If you look at the cover flow and shelf parts of the video you can see every so often a title pop up on the bottom left of the screen......these are for movies without cover art and is automatic so you know what they are. Also on the same part you can see the options which allow you to turn on a movies title permanently rather than the missiing auto title display.

Cheers

Ben

Yeah I know, but if I can capitalize on the amazing efforts of this project and do some better integration of other web components, then so be it. I'll start tinkering with one for my family room and put my HD200 to good use in the master

I was beginning to think i3/i5 too.

I'm in no way dissing the HD200, I think it's a wonderful box.

I would save the money and go i3 unless you find a killer deal on a i5. you don't see much gain for a htpc client from the two

I just spotted this thread for the first time, must have been half asleep before!

So it seems all the bitching and whining going on about the new v7 UI is basically wasted effort because everyone will be using Ortus when you release it anyway, lol.

.....and I suddenly find satisfaction that I put up with rebooting clients once a week, I feel some upgrades coming on!
