SageTV Service memory leak?

Does anyone else have a memory leak with the SageTV service? Upon bootup, it takes about 170MB of RAM. After a week or so, it's up to 450MB. A reboot clears it back down.

It depends on what all you're doing as to how much memory it uses up. But you see is not a memory leak.

I wouldn't call that a memory leak just standard SageTV. Like MitchSchaft said it really depends what SageTV is doing for you? I personally set my Java Heap Size to 1024 Megs so that I know that amount of ram is allocated to Sage. Sage generally lurks around the 500-600 MB used and I can go months without rebooting. (If I stop tinkering...) I use 2 HDPVRs, 1 hdhomerun (both ports), 2 extenders, and a placeshifter client from time to time. All that and sage never seems to grow much beyond that...

If it plateaus at a certain level after a few days, that's not a leak; that's normal behavior. Some stuff (like UI graphics) doesn't get loaded immediately on startup but waits until you actually call for it.

If memory usage keeps going up week after week, with no upper limit, that would be a leak.

What should you set your Java heap size to? Is this the JVMMaxHeapSizeMB? Mine is set to 0. My system has two HD-PVRs, an OTA tuner, an analog tuner, 4xHD-200s, one Sage Client PC and occasional Placeshifter clients. My Sage server OS is WHS with 2 GB of RAM.

It defaults to 256 (even if it is set as 0). In the System Information, there are a few numbers in there that relate to your java heap size. The numbers will look something like ### / ### / ###. Group one is how much memory the current Java heap is using, the second number is the highest amount of memory Sage has used since the last restart, and the last number is the overall amount it can use. The right amount really varies by system depending on how many thumbnails and how many extenders you are using, but if the second number ever equals the last number then Sage will run slower overall as it means that data has to be cleared out to make room for new requests. I currently have mine set to 768 (I believe) although I probably could get away with 512mb allocated.

Thanks Paul - my numbers are 260/400/400 so it looks like I am maxing out. I guess I should raise the number. What value do you have in the Registry setting - 768 (in decimal) or 300 hex? Do you have to restart you system to have this setting reflected or just stop and start the Sage service?

Yep you definitely need to up it. I always just leave it in Hex and just type in 300. And no you don't need to restart your computer, but you do need to shut down the Sage Service and restart after you have changed the registry. You should then be able to look in the System Info and see the updates .
