BMT issues

I am running I think an older version of BMT 3.0.2. When I first installed it, it worked very well. As I have added movies to my library and performed scans it doesn't seem to find metadata. I have to manually select the movie from the list. I updated to phoenix 1.44 and sagex api 6.6.2 and it didn't help. I am going to the BMT website via jetty in order to execute the scan. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Neil

heffneil, i'm not sure what your particular issue might be.. but it would probably help if you updated to the 4.0 beta and tried with that.

Well I did just that and installed the beta. It didn't work until I rebooted but now it is working and it looks like everything has been scanned.

Thanks so much!!! I love it!

apostrophe symbol

I am NOT an “html” or “metadata” expert, but when I use BMT to automatically import TV Show Episode Descriptions, the apostrophe symbol, as it appears in words on the source’s web site does not always appear in the imported data, or it appears that the data is “misinterpreted”. This problem is not universal or not consistent, as the problem seems to appear on some imports, and not for others.

And when there is a problem, I can read the same text or sentence from four different outputs (UI) at the same time, and NONE of the four outputs are consistent with each other.

Here are four actual examples I am viewing presently. The visual outputs or UI that I can view and read the same episode description from are:

1. The original website using Internet Explorer 8:
Alex’s car doesn’t go very fast. (The apostrophe symbols are intact and correct)

2. BMT Metadata Tool Web UI, as read from the episode description field, after import:
Alex s car doesn t go very fast. (Blank spaces instead of apostrophe symbols)

3. Viewing the TV that is connected to a SageTV HD300 Extender:
Alexs car doesnt go very fast. (Square symbols instead of apostrophe symbols).

4. The SageTV Media Center GUI / SageTV Server (aka: SageMC):
Alexs car doesnt go very fast. (No apostrophe symbols, blank spaces disappear)

THE SAME DATA is being read, yet I am reading FOUR different results.

And to add to the confusion, when reading the very next TV episode description listed in the same TV series lineup, the next episode description also includes words with apostrophe symbols too, yet after the metadata is imported, the apostrophe symbols all appear correctly, regardless of the “User Interface” (UI) or device I am using, -- so now there appears to be NO PROBLEM at all, (thus the inconsistency, -- sometimes it is a problem, -- and sometimes it is NOT a problem).

That being said, I suspect that the original source metadata code might be the source of the problem, -- HOWEVER, this does not help me understand why we still end up with so many DIFFERENT “interpretations” when reading the same metadata code for the same apostrophe symbol. Again, depending on what UI or device I am viewing or reading the same sentence with, I get a different interpretation or result, as shown in the four examples listed above.

THREE QUESTIONS:
1. I can handle (or understand) why there might be different results when using different products from various sources or vendors, but would it be fair to expect similar results or “the same interpretation” of data when using products from the SAME VENDOR? (ie: SageTV Media Center and SageTV Extenders)

2. Does anyone have any idea’s regarding this problem?

3. Does this sound like a “bug” that should be addressed or “officially submitted” to SageTV?

On the other hand, if this sounds like a common or acceptable problem with no simple solution within the Web UI / Database Management community, perhaps a little explanation might be helpful, and appreciated, especially for some of us “dummy end-users”. – Thanks

This may be a bug in BMT, so I've added an issue, so that it doesn't get forgotten.
