possibly defaulted to 8000 on my server as 8080 was already in use be the web interface?

If you had Jetty on a port different than 8000, you will need to set it back on the Settings screen.

On the Galaxy tab and such, you might need to increase the delay, if you are getting a message that the video can't be played. This basically would be the case if the SageTV Server is slow in starting the stream from VLC and that the media player is not waiting long enough.
time to update it again!

Just had an idea for a feature request, although it might be beyond possible but I am not a programmer so have no idea. Is it possible to have a choice of streaming qualities, one geared for wifi the other geared for 3G dependant on location?

It did cross my mind, when I switched to the lower quality defaults. If people could post their StreamingTranscodeOptions, I could probably come up with 6 based profile, that people can tune up and select in the Server settings. Probably something along the lines of:
  1. 15 fps, h.263, 352x240.
  2. 15 fps, h.264, 352x240.
  3. 29 fps, h.263, 352x240.
  4. 29 fps, h.264, 352x240.
  5. 29 fps, h.263, 576x384.
  6. 29 fps, h.264, 576x384.

The h.263 is supposed to be less processor intensive (server transcoding side) than the h.264, while the fps and resolution are mostly bandwidth limited. Of course not all the resolutions are valid in VLC (it likes multiple of 16) or possibly on the device itself, which is why I'd like actual user values...

Version 1.49

- Fix: Detailed views were not displaying properly.

Sorry, was caught mid-change by the default Jetty's port issue, and ended up republishing something that was not ready. So I just reverted it for now.

Looks like the last 2 cover the larger EVO screen size. Will have to upgrade the processor on my WHS to handle any kind of transcoding, hmm....

Then again, it might be more CPU intensive to produce a smaller resolution video from the same source...

Version 1.50

- Fix: The image cache was too URL specific.
- Now requesting higher resolution photos on devices that support them.
- Replaced the image place holder by a transparent one.
- Renamed Android ID to the more accurate Device ID.

Images cached over wifi wouldn't be used over 3g if you were using different host names...

Photos were rescaled to a width of 320 (or 480 on high dpi devices), while now they are rescaled to the biggest of the device's width or height.

Version 1.51

- Fix: Monitoring the wifi state did not play nice on a 3G connection.

incremental sync

Is there any way to do an incremental sync?

I have yet to get a full sync of my library, and even if I can ever somehow achieve it, I can't imagine having to resync 50,000 photos because I added another 10 to the library.

Not yet. I did put that logic in for the System messages, but I haven't modified the Albums/Songs/Photos/Videos to work that way yet. I am basically sending those by alphabetical order, while I'll need to switch by date and keep track of the last sent.

Right. To help with the sync, disable the sleep mode while you're doing it, sync a single section (i.e. go in Photos and hit sync, instead of syncing albums/photos/videos at the same time), and don't be displaying the list as it occurs (i.e. go back to the Home screen, or at least the Media center screen), or you're just forcing constant refreshes of the displayed list.

Now that I have streaming working, is there anyway to control the stream? Pause, play, FFW, RWD, etc, etc, etc??

Thanks!

You might be able to do those through VLC Remote or such, though you might have to change the parameters to enable HTTP control.

Does this app let the user scroll through their movies and play them on an extender? Or is it just for remote functions and streaming to the phone?

It is all of the above and more.

Version 1.52

- Fix: Some wifi events could happen before the app was ready for them.

Is there a video of the software in action? I might buy a smartphone partly just to run this software and I would be interested in seeing how it looks/works before buying anything. If there is no video no big deal.

I don't own an Android device myself... The first post and the wiki do have a bunch of screenshots, I should probably add some of the Actions somewhere.

OK, so here is one... There is no sound, not everything is shown and there is a big watermark in it, but...

OK, I borrowed a friend's andriod phone to test taSageTV myself, but despite following the wiki to the letter and enabling the correct ports in my server's firewall, I cant connect. It simply will not connect. I know that I CAN connect because I can access the mobile web server from the phone's web browser.
