Major +1 from me.

Can't call any external programs without it. Horribly missed feature. Also would love to get rid of useless menu clutter and rename some options.

ditto for me, specially with disk bar, and launch external apps,

although....if the 7.0.12 spent quite a bit of work on re-doing the theme architecture, i wonder if that is leading us in the right direction

Sorry to be late in getting into this but I am running SageMC from SageTV7 and I cannot get my menu mods to work. I have edited my sagemcmenu.xml (I think that is the name of the file) and while it does show the new menu item, the item is not functional. I am using the exact same syntax as on my Sage V6 server (I have two servers running concurrently one on V6 and one on V7).

This menu item is supposed to show a specific directory in the Video Library but no files/folders show up in the view.

The sagemcmenu.xml is the menu file used by Dynamic Menu. It is based on the default_menu_V6_3.xml that was used by Dynamic Menu for the Default STV back in 6.6. Even though there are vaild expressions in there that Sage can evaluate I still don't think it is going to function without the Dynamic Menu framework imported and made to work with v7. I'm pretty sure the nielm_sagemenureader.jar and nielm_sageutls.jar is also required for this to work. There is no type of menu.xml in a default SageTV 7 install. It's not used by SageTV. Everyone tends to forget that neilm's original Dynamic Menu was incorporated and built into SageMC way back in the beginning. It had changed and evolved through the years but in the end it's still the Dynamic Menu by Nielm.

<snip> ... Incidentally, this feature leads one to speculate that dynamic menus can't be far off...

It is nice that you are finding the user category feature useful, but I have no idea how it could possibly be related to dynamic menus... there were alternate recordings views previously and the v7 main menu has remembered the last-used recordings menu view (and other menus' last-used view) since around the beginning of the v7 beta.

Yeah, but what features do you need? The dynamic main menu did quite a bit more than most people used. Is it the ability to move menu items around? Is it the calling of external apps? Is it the StaticContexts allowing menu's to jump to folder-filtered views (which, BTW, was in SageMC only)?

I think having the basics would fill the gap for a lot of people. Move, show, hide, rename. Obviously that wouldn't do what everyone wanted but it seems like it would cover a large chunk.
