Another Plugin Idea: Blu-ray DVD External Playback

With v7 finally putting that Sage "WOW" factor back in my life, there is yet one sorely needed feature that I'm sure many are waiting for. And that is a way to play those Blu-ray DVD's.

I know we do not have the "Dynamic Customizable Menu Support" with v7 (I was one who really didn't use it for much anyway), but I think Fuzzy had some luck with using it to set up an external application link to exit Sage, open TMT3 to play a Blu-ray disc (or hard disk backup), then return back to the Sage UI after exiting TMT3.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to develop a v7 plugin to do this, but I would think it would be a great opportunity to add this sorely need feature to the compliment of Sage offerings.

Any feedback on this plugin request???

Looks like a few reader hits but no comments. I'd would have guessed this plugin request would have triggered much positive feedback.

I have an intention of making a media_player_plugin_class that will launch an external program (along with potentially passing commands to that program)... alas, my coding time has been slashed to the bone, and my java coding efficiency is poor at best. That, and I don't run V7 yet (though that shouldn't matter, I don't think the class specs have changed since 2005 or so)..

Great Fuzzy. I'll be looking for it. Hope you can find the time to get it into the new v7 plugin manager. That new feature is a beautiful piece of work.

Don't know why you're not running v7 but so far my systems are running better than ever with v7. The WAF has improved 100% and visitors to my home are commenting for the first time, "NICE!!! What does it take to put that in my house?".

The only piece missing in my world now is this needed plugin to play blu-ray dvds without manually exiting Sage, loading TMT3, then reloading sage after movie.

I ran into a new snag yesterday while attempting to watch a blu-ray dvd. I found I had to shut down SageTV Launcher through the task manager because my remote kept calling up Sage to reload as I tried to control TMT3 with remote. I don't remember if I was running SageTV Launcher and experienced this same problem in v6.

I'm not running 7 yet, because it isn't complete. We depend entirely too much on the malore menus to switch at this time. It really doesn't add any features I'm interested in, other than the new UI, so until the new UI is complete (covering everything we use), I see no need to pay extra money for it. I CERTAINLY have no desire to PAY to be a beta tester.

Uh, OK. I assume you've loaded and tested the trial. I can't make any comments related to the malore menus as I've not used them before. As for the UI, the only comment I'd make is it is a huge improvement over the old vanillia UI, but still falls a little short vs the SageMC UI that i grew attached to.

That all said, I've found the the general operation of v7 greatly improved (and you already know how much the elimination of the "pause" has meant to me).

As always, to each his own I guess. Hope you've posted the specifics of your UI needs somewhere for the devilopers to view while putting together the final release of v7.

nah, the only thing the UI is lacking for me, is that the malore menues are not updated (yet). Andy has already said they will be updated, so when that happens, I'll probably think about updating.

Would love to see a better way to handle external media playback and better control of which program launches depending on media type.
