FLAC Playback

With version 6, I used the winamp plugin to play FLAC files, which worked great. When I upgraded to version 7, this stopped working. As I understand it, version 7 plays FLAC natively, so I removed all the winamp plugin entries form the properties files. This seemed to do the trick as I could now play a FLAC file. The problem is that when I play an album that is in the FLAC format, the first track plays then it stops. Also, I cannot fast forward a track. The counter moves forward but the track restarts from the beginning each time I hit the FF button on the remote. This behavior happens both directly on my Sage PC and on my HD200.

Anyone else experienced this issue?

Just tested this with my FLAC files and get the same result.

I think a bug report is in order.

Same problem

I had the same problem on my HD200. I always had the problem with version 6 also. I switched to Apple lossless (ALAC) to get rid of the problem. I think that I used dbPowerAmp to convert the files. In the end, I think that I will like it better.

My old procedure was to import the music into a lossless format in Windows Media Player. This captured song names. Then, I would convert it a second time using Media Coder to get it to the FLAC format. It was not that convenient and could have caused my playback problems.

Using iTunes, one can hold the shift key while opening to select or create a different library. In that way, I can have two different libraries. One is set up to import ALAC automatically and the other is standard quality for my iPod. I have not tried testing to see if I can import music from the Apple lossless library to the lower quality library in order to automatically convert the quality.

OK, I figured out how to fix this. I had the always_use_dshow_player=true set in my properties file so I can use my PowerDVD decoders. If I set it to false, the FLAC files play fine.

I don't really want to have to choose between being able to play FLAC files and using the PowerDVD decoders.

You shouldn't have to set the dshow flag to use the powerdvd decoders. If you choose the cyberlink video decoder in the audio/video settings, it should still use it (it will just use the sage demux prior to the decoder, instead of whatever dshow decides).

Of course, if you move to win7, you won't need teh powerdvd decoders.. :-)

Turns out I need to set the dshow flag in order to get DD and DTS to work with ACFilter. If I don't set the flag, ACFilter doesn't get used and I just get 2 channel sound. So, I'm now faced with a choice between getting digital sound in my videos and getting FLAC files to play properly.

Try setting in AC3 Filter to use waveout instead of directsound. Maybe you can have both.

It was actually already set to use waveout. I tried setting it to use directsound with the same results.
