Scheduling_Lookahead in sage.properties file

This is from the release notes for RC2.
Quote:
The amount of time SageTV will plan ahead for scheduling can be set by the property "scheduling_lookahead", the default is 3 days. But it will go beyond any limit set in an attempt to resolve conflicts.
I have a couple of questions on this property.

1) it states that the default is 3 days. however mine says:

Quote:
scheduling_lookahead=259200000
Is this 3 days in miliseconds?

2) Will setting this to 14 days (1209600000) change the number of days of recording information I see when I go into the upcoming recording schedule? I want to ba able to see more than 3 days of information in this screen.

3) do I need to close sage in order for this change to take effect?

1) It looks like its in milliseconds (259200000 = 3 x 24 x 60 x 60 x 1000)
2) So yes, that should be 14 days.
3) Any time you edit the properties file, you have to close Sage, it writes the properties file on exit so it will wipe any changes you tried to make.

That's what it calculates to be. Most other times are listed as milliseconds, so I guess this one seems to be that way also -- mine is listed just like yours. (Haven't had time to test it yet, though.)

Again, that's what 14 days calculates to be, so that would seem to be correct -- # days * 24 hours/day * 3600 secs/hr * 1000 millisecs/sec. (Or: # days * 86400000)

Yes -- you would have to completely exit SageTV, edit the properties file, then restart SageTV. If you edit the properties file while SageTV is still running, it will overwrite your changes when it exits.

If you have time to test this... please report back.

I even looked to make sure there wasn't a reply before going ahead & hitting the "Submit Reply" button.... at least we agreed in terms of our answers.

Edit: And, no, I don't remember anyone else asking about the use of this new property before.

Well I don't think I have anything scheduled to record at 10:00. I'll give it a try then. Thanks for the quick responses to my question.

Works fine here too (hadn't tried it til this thread). Have it set to 1209600000 and I have stuff scheduled out to 5/7 (not quite 14 days, but probably to the end of guide data). Also, it was scheduled instantly, the first place I went after changing the properties file was scheduled recordings and there they were. Cool.

to Jeff.

You could always schedule manual recordings out that far. I really like to be able to see the favorites scheduled so I can look for potential conflicts and see how busy the recorder will be.

I just changed mine to 14 days as well, and it's working like a champ!

What makes Sage so awesome is not just the product, but the team behind it that actually listens to the customers and implements suggestions!

It's the little things that make life worth living... Like 14 day scheduling...

Working great here too. I have 109 things scheduled to record in the next 14 days. Man I gotta get out of the house more.

Bah! I have 169 items scheduled (peasant ). And what is this "out of the house" thing about which you speak? (68 favorites, 4 tuners, FF is my friend)

Right now, I've got 74 shows to record over the next 3 days, but that is only because I've rejected many IR suggestions... the list is regularly over 100 after a new day's IR additions. I'm afraid to set this to 14 days! On the other hand, it might be funny to see just how many shows get scheduled.

You're trying to kill SageTV aren't you! I bet you can't hit triple digits (go ahead, I dare you ) Dang, they don't have an exploding smiley. Oh well, how about this

You mean quadruple digits, don't you?? Yes, I'm trying to kill SageTV... this might have been a mistake, but I decided to see what would happen. I made the change to 14 days right after I wrote that last post... my poor p2-400 is still chugging away!

You should check your schedule again... the count may still be going up; I know mine is.

- Andy

Edit: the closest I can come to an exploding smiley is heating the popcorn:

op:

Bah! nevermind, the popcorn seems to be out of order, since it conflicts with the one for sticking your tongue out.

OK... it stopped working a while ago. I'm up to 401 shows through the end of May 9! I'm not sure how often SageTV rethinks the upcoming schedule, but I don't think I should leave my archaic system set to look ahead 14 days.

fidget: you don't use IR, do you? That would certainly boost it.

Isn't Carlgar the one who still has something like 6 tuners? I wonder what his schedule would get up to...

Nope, I don't use IR. For giggles, I turned in on to see how things would turn out. 1409 (I have a dedicated 2.6 GHz P4, so it didn't take too long)! I don't think I will leave it turned on.

I wonder how many shows Cayars would get with his 8 tuners. I don't think he will quite make the 3000 mark, but it would be close.

Oh yeah, Cayars was the one with 8, not Carlgar! I think he said he sold 2 tuners, though.

I was waiting to see what would happen if you turned IR on... if you haven't 'trained' it at all, I figured you might reach 4 digits with those 4 tuners. (I only have 2.)

Just a side note. I have never used IR or trained it, but I checked my schedule file that includes IR choices that would be recorded if I had it enabled. 570 shows scheduled to record in the next 3 days with my 6 tuner setup. I used to have 14 days setup on my AMD 3200+ but it made all my clients stutter badly...I have 2 clients used for MVPs on the same box...

I know this is an old thread, but when he says completely shut down Sage... that means the service as well if it's running. Missed that while I was trying to make the 14day change and kept getting the default setting when I'd re-open the file.

Now the other half can't say "but my Tivo tells me 2wks ahead what's recording and yours only does a couple of days." If I don't get chewed out for the 500MCE that just got added to the inventory....

Great forum and software by the way.
