A couple weeks ago it was as low as $110 on Newegg.
I have four of these in an unRAID file server, and I haven't had any problems with them. It seems like they have pretty good performance for a 5400RPM drive, and they run cool. |

it's the seek time
I found the Samsung Eco drives to have better seek time specs compared to the other low power / quiet drives. When you compare the difference in latency between 5400 and 7200 (which is the same for all drives at 5.56ms vs 4.17ms), a difference of 1.39ms, the differences in seek times in these drives is considerable -- and therefore an important spec to look at when selecting a good HTPC drive. Unfortunately specs aren't always clear or are stripped down to a few feature items, or are not reliable, so still need to look at reviews and feedback.
My two 1.5GB Samsung Eco drives are working quite well. They're quick, run cool and I can't hear them at all except slightly when spinning up (they're mounted in Sonata grommet isolators). TW |
