Smile Cat avatars - what's the deal???

Everyone here seems to have a cat based avatar. Just wondering what the origin of this phenomenon originally was. My bet is on Narflex, but who knows.

I decided to temporarily change my own avatar (first time in 3 years on bbs's) to reflect my own 'animal bias' during the Sharks' run for the Cup. If/when I get a cat, I'll integrate it into my avatar here too, I guess, so I fit in.

Only cat avatars need reply.

Re: Cat avatars - what's the deal???

If you/I could define people by only one standard, there would cat people and there would be dog people. I care not comment on which I am, or on my interpretation of the two types of people

I.

Cats, of course, rule the world, so it seems only fair that they be used as avatars...

Hmmm... must be a dog person, or else you would have a cat avatar already. But, what if someone is both a cat AND dog person?

I don't know the origin of have a cat avatar, but I couldn't resist joining that clique. There are a few rebels around here with dog avatars... maybe they are just the advance force & the rest of the crowd is planning one big dog invasion when the time is right...

I like cats, but they make me sneeze. Video cats are OK.

Seems like the Kardatzkes let their cats keep them company during long hours of programming :-)

Speaking of which... the cat you see pictured for me is one that used to sleep on my lap while I programmed late at night. He was a great little space heater in my office during winters -- my office is at the end of the house opposite from the furnace, so it tends to stay fairly cool. I say 'was' because he died of a brain tumor in 2002... our other cat is a loner who prefers to sleep under beds & only comes out for meals. On the other hand, that might have something to do with my oldest daughter always wanting to chase the cat around the house while screaming as loud as possible... haven't been able to break her of that habit yet & then she wonders why the cat won't let her pet her!

Hey! I thought that _was_ a cat! It looks like the cat has its head down, cleaning its chest, or maybe a paw that blends into the dark fur. What I now see as the dog's nose looked to me like the cat's left ear sticking out from the bowed head.

Oh well... another one has fallen to the dark... errrr... dog side.

- Andy

Edit: I knew this would happen... pawn's avatar changed & now it doesn't look like a cat, so these comments don't make sense any more. Oh well, I should have kept a copy of the photo.

<sigh> ... rather than getting into a real hissing, barking, scratching, biting, fur flying fight here, why don't we compromise. So... what do you say we choose something a little more acceptable to both sides. Since I don't have a web site to store this image & have it displayed as part of this post, check out the attachment.
