Network Searching Doesn't

I have an NAS box attached to my network which stores all the music that SageTV accesses. It is NasLite's OS so all permissions are wide open.

When I first set up SageTV I was able to add media directories to point to the various music files. I added these directories by using Specify under Detailed Setup | Media Center Import Directories | Add Directories.

For the past couple of days I've been trying to add some additional directories using the Specify method. SageTV appears to accept the entries, but when examining the media directories list, they do not appear. Further, if I use the Up Directory function to look for the new directories, once it hits Network, SageTV issues an Invalid Directory [smb:////] message.

I don't know how to solve this and would appreciate any guidance.

BTW there's a similar thread on the Beta Forum so this sounds like a continuing problem.

Thanks much,

Bill Cole

Bill, I have what looks to be the same situation. My only difference is that I moved my Drobo (hard drive array) from being directly attached to my Sage server to another server on my network. Now I cannot get Sage to see the shared drives even though the Windows XP box that Sage runs on maps the drive and accesses the files fine. I am scratching my head and hope your thread can bring some help. Thank you.

I'm having the same problem. I know the service and user account is setup properly, for it works just fine in when configuring the Import Directories. The HUGE difference is that when configuring the Import Directories, there is an option to manually Specify the folder path. Unfortunately, we aren't given the option to manually Specify the folder path when configuring Automatic Conversion Destination location.

Also, I scoured the various configuration files manually and found the Import Directories in the SAGE.PROPERTIES file, but the Favorites with Automatic conversion is nowhere to be found in those files, so I'm assuming that it's stored in the WIZ.BIN file.

Can the Specify button be added to the Automatic Conversion Destination screen?

Thanks in advance!

Try mapping in Windows first

Aside from Justin above, have the two of you tried mapping the drives in windows first?

Usually if I have a hiccup and have to re-map the drives, if Sage is running it will immediately ask if I want to import the data once the drive is mapped.

I recommend killing sage before mapping. Map the drive(s), then in the setup just point to the drive letter and pick what you want to import from that drive.

I have never had a problem with this method.

Sorta Solved:

The failure of the Specify method was caused by user confusion. Here's how I got it to work:
  • [1]Under Detailed SetUp | General select Media Center Import Directories
[2]Under Media Center Import Directories select Modify
[3]Under Modify select Add New Directory
[4]Select Specify and enter the path of your new subdirectory
[5]After pressing Enter to capture the new subdirectory [which should appear "Select the Import Directory to Add" at the top of the page, select "Select Current"
[6]Select the media types [music, video, pictures] that you want to associate with this subdirectory by putting a green check mark in the selection box[s]
[7]Select "Done - add the path" That should finish things for that path and send you back to Step 3. You can exit from that panel by selecting "Continue" [exit would have been better, but, hey, whose arguing].

My mistake was to stop at Step 4 assuming that the addition was complete. It sometimes pays to read the manual, though I think that this process needs to be less complication/more user friendly. Maybe release 7?

The Up Directory function still doesn't do what one would expect, so, Hedly [thank you], I'll give the drive mapping thing a shot. I've had good luck with doing that for other situations so hope that streak continues.

Thank all of you for your thoughts on this.

I have the same problem when I try to specify a video conversion folder that's on the network. Browsing to "Network" gives me smb://// and "Invalid directory". There is no option for manually entering a path.

Does anybody know how to handle this?

Thanks. Worked perfectly for the PC client but how do I enter this on the HD200 with a remote (no backslash)?

That's what NTE is for -- use the number 1 to enter symbols. If you don't see symbols, use the Pause command to change NTE modes. Entering text via numbers can be tedious, so if you need to do it a lot, I would just use a keyboard on a PC, though you could try a USB keyboard on the HD200.

Doh! Thanks - totally forgot that the "1" key has symbols also but I may try the USB keyboard (that I didn't know you could do).

Thanks for the tip. Just to double check: this STV update works with STV 6.6.2.24?

Thanks much ...

Should be STV 6.6.2.218. Apologies.

No - the post in the link states it is for v7.0.15. The person I replied to listed v7 in the sig lines.

I can't seem to get any of these fixes to work. I can map the drives in Windows 7, but can't find them using Sage. I'm not sure how the "specification" is supposed to look, because it seems to be a slightly different definition everyplace I look. I don't know whether the computer name is supposed to be in the path, but lets say I have a computer called MYCOMPUTER, with an L drive that I want to use as an import directory. When I specify, do I call it \\MYCOMPUTER\L or something else like SMB\\MYCOMPUTER\L or MYNETWORK\MYCOMPUTER\L ? I can't seem to get any of those to work, and the mapped drives don't show up either.

I've set them to share the drives, btw.

Did you share those drives out in Windows? Windows sharing allows you to name the share but by default it will take the volume name of the drive or the folder you are sharing. And you should share the folders. I have a folder I shared called "Videos". The UNC path to that is \\MAIN\Videos. (MAIN is the computer name) I have to folders below that "Full Disc" and "MainMovie". SO I have 2 Import paths in Sage: \\MAIN\Videos\FullDisc and \\MAIN\Videos\MainMovie. And don't do simple sharing (Based and whatever OS you are running.) Go Advanced.
