Sleep / power management issue
Hi,
I just recently started using Sage, and I have a question/issue about scheduled recordings when the computer is on standby. I scheduled one recording manually (as in, by entering start/stop time) to test my configuration, allowed the computer to idle to sleep, and waited for it to wake up and begin recording. It did, and 20 minutes after the recording finished, it idled back to sleep without me doing anything (so wake timers are functioning properly). However, at the same time I scheduled that manual recording, I also scheduled it to record all episodes of a single show that came on for as far into the future as the TV guide had data. This was on Thursday night, and the first episode it was supposed to record was on Friday morning. Thursday night, I let the computer go to sleep and it woke up and recorded the manual recording before going back to sleep. Friday morning, it did not wake up to record the show I scheduled, and did not wake again until I manually pressed the power button to tell it to do so. The next episode isn't until Monday so I don't know if it's going to wake up for that one or not, but something tells me it isn't. As far as I know, nearly all my settings are still on their defaults. The computer that Sage is installed on is also my gaming rig, so that means loud fans and bright LEDs, two things that I definitely don't want to have to leave on 24/7. One thing, in case it matters, is that I do have Sage running as a service. Also, I am using Sage with a serial connector to a DirecTV set-top box. This works well for changing channels, but for now means that I have to leave the STB powered on 24/7. Is there any way to configure Sage to send an "on" command to the STB whenever I begin watching TV or it begins a recording, and an "off" command when a recording finishes or I exit/sleep Sage? |

power
In Vista I found it easier to disable the power savings features to eliminate the issue of missed recordings while away from the home.
Those devices are pretty low power compared to your PC or even a light bulb for that matter. |

First of all, I'm running Windows 7, not Vista, and second I'm not sure what exactly you're saying. A PC is low power compared to a PC? The computer I'm using this on doubles as my gaming computer, so it has some pretty high powered components in it (i7 and high-end graphics card), so it does take a fair amount of power even at idle.
Also, it's obvious that sleep/wake timers do work, since the first recording worked perfectly. I'm probably just doing something wrong, and don't know what that is. |

Never mind, it appears that it did record, I just never saw the computer turn on.
