HDPVR IR Receiver

Is there some trick to get the IR receiver on the front of the HDPVR to work? I'm running with the most recent SageTV 7 beta on Windows 7 with an HDPVR and 2250 installed. I also installed the WinTV IR program and Girder. After that I'm lost. I want to use the receiver with my universal remote. I tried opening the a debug.txt as suggested in another thread from 2008, but I get nothing. My only thought is that the receiver on the 2250 is interfering (I got the card OEM and it didn't come with the IR receiver dongle). Any help would be appreciated.

Many people have tried using the internal HD-PVR IR without success. I found that the HD-PVR was unstable when using the internal IR. I already owned a USB-UIRT, so I used the USB-UIRT for channel changing. You can control 3 set top boxes with one USB-UIRT. If each set top box can be set to different IR codes, such as 3 different codes, then one USB-UIRT could control 9 set top boxes. I recommend you spend $5 more for the 56 KHz sensor model just in case you need it now, or in the future. The USB-UIRT costs $55, but it will solve your problems.

Another option is to use Firewire/1394 channel changing if your set top box supports it; unclear from your post and no details in a signature to "point the way".

I initially used the HD-PVR IR but it was nothing but trouble - not stable and missed channel changes.

For the cost of a Firewire cable and a bit of work (getting free software and configuring), I have had rock-solid channel changing ever since.

I would invest the effort in either USB-UIRT or Firewire.

I have never used firewire, but I understand it is much faster at changing channels than the USB-UIRT. However, one advantage that the USB-UIRT has is the flexibility to change providers whose set top boxes might not have firewire. I usually change providers every two years, especially if the provider jacks up the price.

You guys are missing the question. The OP is not asking about the IR Blaster, but rather the IR Receiver. They are two different things.

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the IR receiver. However, there are several programs required to use the IR blaster and it isn't too far of a stretch to think that those same programs are going to be required for the IR receiver.

Therefore I would suggest that you read my "How To" link in my signature and follow the directions for getting the IR blaster up and running. I suspect that may help you get the IR reciever working. I get the idea that only one of the Hauppauge IR software has been loaded according to the first post.

Hopefully that helps.

I've actually already done what you described in your sig and the IR blaster works perfectly for me. I had an old sagetv box up with the HDPVR for several years w/o issue. It's only with this new machine that I want to use the IR receiver. I installed the HDPVR last too so that the system would chose that one. I was hoping somebody had a similar setup that got it working. I was trying to avoid the USB-IRT purchase.

Unfortunately I cannot help more than that. I've never tried using the IR receiver.

I originally had this issue when I first bought the hd pvr which has been well over a year. I bought this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...588&CatId=1430 at local shop for $20.00 to fix and worked great. Your safe bet.

I later upgraded the server and did reinstall. I started with original cd software and drivers tested the receiver and it didn't work...I let the arcsoft updater update the TMT software. Then I manually did the firmware and accessories to the latest without using hwclear. Rebooted the machine and powered cycled the HDPVR. After doing this it worked and been rock solid for over an year.

Connections are component in hdpvr and spdif in. Nothing in pass through and nothing in analog audio in.
HDPVR only capture device currently
Win 7 64 bit UAC off
