7.0.20 MKV Server/Client playback fails

If I attempt to use the Dshow Player instead of the SageTV player I just get a black screen with no audio. If I select the SageTV player it does playback but stutters when I playbback 1080P content and a bit with parts of 720P content. Also when I select the SPDIF output instead of speakers it has no bearing on where the audio comes out. I can only change this via the OS default audio settings.

I'm running Windows 7 x64. I have also noticed slow recovery on my HD200 extenders when I skip around on MKV content.

Previous Betas did not have this problem. I believe 7.0.17 is the last one I had tested this on before .20

Anyone else seeing this?

Please bug report it. I've had problems with MKVs through all betas, with the same symptoms and we haven't found a solution yet.

I was having the same "balck screen" problem occasionally in 7.0.18 sometimes when I switched to a new channel. I found hitting the skip forward button on remote sometimes got my video and audio back up. Haven't seen this yet in 7.0.20 but I'm been having problems with most of the v7 betas and RC's with DirecTv Serial Control changing to the wrong channel both in LiveTV and scheduled recordings.

You could try the work around described in this thread: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=437709
The issue in that thread was fixed at some stage, but seems to have regressed recently (resulting in a black screen)

Thanks for the link, I tried it and had no luck with the Registry or additional items being added to the properties file. I didn't see any error on the screen after waiting several seconds but I did notice the timebar isn't scrolling it's just sitting there. Switching to the SageTV player does play but not perfectly for 1080P and even stutters a little with 720P.

I opened a case with SageTV support yesterday but haven't heard back from them yet.

EDIT: I just took another look and realized I modified the sage.properties instead of sageclient.properties so I did that now and can get it to playback with the DSHOW player except that as someone else pointed out if I try to change the audio out to SPDIF it will once again freeze when I attempt to playback and even after I change the audio back to speakers it won't play back until I shut down the client and re-open it.

Definitely submit a bug report on this, since it worked for you previously, but doesn't work now it should be easier for us to fix. (and please revert to 7.0.17 to verify it still works in that version and that you haven't made a config change which stopped it from working)

Reverting to 7.0.17 didn't help but I didn't have time to clean install. Also noticed that if I channge to overlay renderer I get audio but no video

Just submitted a bug report on the same issue. Don't remember which version of 7 did work with my MKVs now. Haven't used them in awhile.

I sometimes get about 1/10 second of video when seeking, but then a black screen. Audio plays fine.

Good to see that it's not just me. Maybe a clean install will fix this but I don't have time to try that yet. I do remember trying a version that worked with MKV's but not sure which one it was and I don't know if installing over the top of the newer one would be good enough. I know it worked perfectly with Sage 6.2

For those of you interested, I was given a fix by the Sage developers yesterday that appears to have resolved the issue.

Didn't seem to work for me.

Now MKVs will play for about 1/2 second without audio. After audio starts, the screen goes black or the video gets very choppy (unwatchable).

It goes in the Common under SageTV. Backup the old one first.
