Unraid and my movies, who uses it?

I am looking to host all my dvd's and blurays on a unraid server. I love SMM but I am having difficulties playing the movies hosted on the unraid server. I have rebuilt the database a few times. SO then I was thinking:

Who is currently using my movies and hosting their movies on another machine on the network?

If you are can you share your setup?

Mine is mymovies for whs (database), the client is installed on a windows 7 virtual machine on my mac book pro. I setup the video import folder in sagetv to the unraid. On the mymovies client I setup the folder monitoring to the unraid share.

Thanks
Bill

I use unRAID to store all of my media VD, Blu-Ray, Music, TVShows (Ripped) and I use SMM on all clients to access content.

I am also running unraid on a seperate box on my network which is connected directly to my 24 port gigabit switch.

EDIT: here is a link to another post where I detail out my setup a bit better. Let me knwo if you want any additional info.

I read the post but it did not seem to detail your smm and mymovies setup. How is you mymovies configured. DO you run the my movies database server on whs, win 7, xp etc. I would greatly appreciate a little detail.
I really enjoy the autorip feature of whs mymovies and I really like my setup but I am willing to change the setup if it is necessary to make this function smoothly.

Currently I have a
unraid pro server. I just finished moving all my movies (dvd and blurays to the unraid server.
I have the smm plugin installed
whs database server
win 7 mymovies collection manager
sagetv is configured to the unraid movie share
collection manager is configured to monitor the unraid movie share.

I rebuilt the smm database. I hit play and nothing happens on 98% of the movies. 2-3 movies will start playing. I can play the movies through sagetv's folder list.

I would love to hear you setup and compare it to mine to either change mine to work or find the error.

Thanks so much for sharing your info
Bill

MyMovies Server is running on my sage server which is Windows XP SP3.

when i added the shares i added them using UNC Paths so:

Windows XP for SMM on SAge Server DB is set to read from \\unraidserver\Movies\Blu-Ray , etc.

I also have this exact same UNC path mapped as an import directory in Sage. Exacatly as you see it above (not sure if this is needed, but it seem slike it would be needed in my opinion)

If you already had SMM installed, you would need to force a complete database rebuild if you moved the movie location with inside the MyMovies DATABASE. (Again not 100% sure on this, but this is what i did)

Also make sure your sage user that is running the service has permissions to access the shares.

Hope that helps.

*Any other info i can provide that might be useful, just list out your questions and i will respond.

As of right now I am still using simple sharing. I figured I would enable security once I got things in sage working.

SO to clarify you are running sagetv on xp
on that same machine you are running mymovies database server.

Are you running the mymovies collection manager on your xp sage server or somewhere else?

So in mymovies on the xp sageserver and in sagetv you have specified your movie collection to be at:

\\unraidserver\Movies\Blu-Ray

Are you defining this in the database side of mymovies or the collection manager?

I have setup a Movies share on the unraid server. I defined the unc path to this share in the collection manager under folder monitoring. I then Defined this under the video import directory in sagetv. Both times I specified the UNC path

\\tower\movies (this is the path to my movie collection)

Collection manager is running on SageTV Server

\\unraidserver\Movies\Blu-Ray

Yes, i have the UNC path being used as my import directory in My Movies Database. Navigate to it using network browser explorer inside of MyMovies database collection manager...

I have setup a Movies share on the unraid server. I defined the unc path to this share in the collection manager under folder monitoring. I then Defined this under the video import directory in sagetv. Both times I specified the UNC path

\\tower\movies (this is the path to my movie collection)
Yup that should do.

did you try rebuilding the database file in Sage? Inside of Sage MyMovies in options there is a place where you can tell it to rebuild the database file....or at least there use to be not sure off hte top of my head if it is still there.

In the latest smm you have access the "rebuild database" in the sagemm api. I was wondering if there was a way to rebuild the db in the collection manager? I did rebuild the db though the api option. I did make one change, I stopped the whs folder monitoring service. I rebooted the whs server. Next I will rebuild the db again and see if those changes made a difference.

I don't know of anyways to change anything inside the whs db server, only the collection manager.

So I have a thread going oin over at unraid explaining user level security. If I decide to implement user level security, how do I make sure that sage and my movies will use the proper credentials to use the share. I am going to setup one user with read only and another with read/write. Mymovies will need read/write and sage will need write

Thanks for the help

so the way i did it was i created a user on my server we will call it movieuser for the sake of this discussion.

I made sure that the movie user was used when accessing the UNRAID server to create the My Movies Dtabase inside of my movies database manager.

I also made sure that the sage user running the sageTV service is set up on the unraid server as a user with read permissions.

This way the user inside of sage will not be able to delete content on unRAID

I appreciate the info. This will be my next step (user security). Last night I finally got smm, mymovies and unraid properly configured. I did not watch full movies but I went through and check most movies to make sure that they started and seemed to tream smoothly. Everything seemed perfect.

So next is to get security properly configured.
