Simplified Firewire Channel Changing for Win7?

I am re-building my system and have to once again go through the dreaded task of getting the firewire channel changer to work. I was able to accomplish this the first time with my Windows 7 system following this thread. What seemed to have helped me the most is this particular post:

1) Reverted to Win7 Firewire Legacy Drivers as per nyplayers advice.
2) Downloaded these STB drivers
3) Plugged in STB Firewire into computer and pointed it the drivers I downloaded in step #2.
4) Followed these instructions *very carefully* - Its got all of the download links you need.
5) Worked on the first try!

Steps 1 -3 are fairly straight forward. When we get to step 4, things begin to get complicated.... is there a way to simplify these instructions if all I want to do is channel change via firewire and not actually use firewire as a capture device?

What prompted this post is that I have already started trying to get this to work and have encountered some of the same frustrations as before. I can get the channel.exe to change channels (verifying it works using TMT), but I get stuck with getting the graphs to work. Fortunately, I made an image before making a mess of my system and will try going over it again. Any suggestions on how to make this easier?

Yeah, those instructions are specifically for recording over firewire. After you've completed up to step #3 from my instructions, jump to step #4 in these channel changing specific instructions.

I went ahead and updated my post to make that clearer

Awesome, that certainly simplifies the process. I will give this a try tomorrow. Thanks!
