SageTV Client RC3 over 802.11g
Good evening,
I'm running into a problem watching live or recorded shows on my server from the remote client. Both systems are RC3. They are connected via a 54Mbps wireless connection (usually running between 36-48Mbps). I record and watch everything at the 2GB rate. The client will freeze the video after 5, 10, 15, or so minutes and I will have to go back to the main menu (if I can) to select it again. I've attached this evenings logs. There is this repetitive "NOOP from Socket" error. Is this what is causing it? Is it due to a lack of bandwidth at that moment? I've also added the: use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true value. |

yeah I gave up quick on the wireless TV thing
And just ran an eternet cable in the living room ok as long as you sit perfectly still with a notebook at least and right in front of the router |

Were you getting the same types of errors? I'm curious to find out if that is, indeed, what is going on. That would suck *lol*.

I have the same problem. I connected an ethernet cable in combination with the 802.11g and even though it is less pronounced, I still get pauses every 15 mins or so. RC4 where are you???

I was having issues over the wireless g network to a long time. It would constantly pause. I was using the Intervideo Non dss codec. As soon as I moved to the elecard codec all the pause problems seem to have stopped on the client. I only use the elecard codec on the client. I use the intervideo on the server.
One issue I have not been able to resolve is the connection to my wireless occasionally disconnects. The client states it is trying to reconnect but never does. I have to reset the client and everything will work great again.

Hmm.. I initially started to use the Elecard codec on my client, but since it's an old PC (1Ghz Athlon w/512MB), it would max out my CPU at 100% and would freeze over time, so I swapped to the NVIDIA codec which dropped it to around 20%... hmm..

I am using a miniitx 933 mhz system with 512 megs of ram. It seems to work well. I havent really totaly tested it yet. I just installed it on Saterday. Watched tv for 2 hours with no pausing.

I had that same problem when I first installed rc3 on my laptop client. The 'use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true' - fix worked in my case. I haven't had any problem since. That's over 802.11g, and my laptop is using the Elecard decoder.

what find of distance can you get from wireless g before you lose enough signal strength to not be able to transmit video?(poorly worded sorry)
Also are you using a bridge or repeater? and what quality do you use on recording |

Hi,
Just curous, why are you using 10.x.x.x class A IP address, you need 16,777,214 nodes on your network? You mentioned you added use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true, where exactly did you add that line or did you find it in the properties file and change the false to true? Forgive me in advance if this is a stupid question but sometimes these little things are something that continues to kick our butts. Added: What version of JAVA are your running? RUN: java -version from the cmd prompt Regards, Mark Last edited by mandrews44; 05-10-2004 at 07:54 PM. |

Well I am using the newest version of java
you change it from false to true the property will only appear in the list after a client has been launched at least once |

The 10.0.0.0/16 block was chosen as to not conflict directly with the network at the office.. and yes, it's waay too big. But regardless.. *lol*
I had to add the Use_blocking command to the client's "sage.properties" file. It was not automatically generated... should this also be added to the server? As far as what version of Java is running, I'll have to check when I am home tonight. It was auto-installed (I think?) with RC2. The Server is running 1.4.2, I believe.

The "use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true" property is at the Sage Server and would not be found or used at the client.

CanadianEh,
This setting only applies to the server and has no effect on the client. The first thing I would do is open the SageTV.properties file on the server and search for use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver in the file. It should be there already as it was added to RC3 and defaults to false. For now and for "testing" as described in the release notes, change this line with SageTV server application shut down. Make sure there are no duplicate lines, if there are the last line will take effect. use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true Restart SageTV and try the client again. Regards, Mark |

any tweaking to the router?
Man cause I can be just in the other room and my router will slow to 1 MB/sec fast enough for internet but come on other times will do 36MB/sec to 54MB/sec in the other room(living room) beside room with router just not dependable I can set to do 54MB/sec but I fear it will not connect at all sometimes if I do that I get 30 - 40ft away on the other side on the apartment and playback will come to a stop I tried just putting documents in the shared folder and paying them in a DVD program and it does the same thing I my be giving Dell a call about this POS Cnet WTF? 54MB/sec lasts in the same room as the router thats it |

No tweaking, basically just plugged it in a few months ago, set it up and haven't had to touch anything since. I just check all around my house and it stayed at 54Mbps.
Edit: btw some wireless phones are supposed to interfere with wireless router operations... something to check out. Last edited by thatdude90210; 05-11-2004 at 11:49 PM. |
