HD-PVR driver version

Hi,

Which version of the HD-PVR driver do you recommend using? I've been using 301 for a while now but should I upgrade to the latest version? Does version 7 "interact" better with a newer version of the driver? Is it more stable?

Thanks.

Many will recommend the 301 driver but I've been using 1.5.7.0 for a while so far with no problems. I haven't had an HDPVR problem in months (knock on wood). Prior to that I was having many problems. I stopped using the optical, updated the drivers, and started rebooting my system daily. Don't know what fixed it for me but I'm not going to mess around trying to figure it out.

Do you automatically reboot the server every day, or do it manually? I've toyed with trying to reboot my server automatically, but I don't know how to do it in a way which won't potentially interfere with a scheduled recording.

Wish I could say the same. 1 day after upgrading to SageTV 7 and the 1.5.7.0 driver I got a lockup and my recording wouldn't stop until I restarted the computer. The next thing I'm going to try is a separate USB controller installed in a PCI slot with a NEC controller. I had this same thing happen with SageTV 6.6 and the first 5.1 Happauge driver. I'm not going to drop back to pre-5.1 drivers or use stereo inputs because the lockups don't happen often. Just when a show doesn't have a repeat!

Bob, I meant to reply with this question in my DirecTV thread, but since you reminded me here... did you run the HCWclear.exe file and then install the latest drivers?

To stay on topic, I'm running the latest drivers and have never had an issue with them. I was a long time holdout of the .301 drivers, too.

I automatically reboot every morning at 4am. 99 times out of 100 there is nothing recording at that time. I've thought about using SQJ to make my reboots a little smarter (only allow if no activity) but just haven't got to it yet.

IP controled power switch. But a Stanley timer P/N 38424 would be simplier, see;

I setup a new server running windows 7 64bit and sage 7 with 2 x HDPVRs running version 1.5.7 -- total uptime is going on 30 days 17 hours, no reboots and no hiccups with my HDPVRs. I would say I average at least 4 - 1 hour programs on them daily, not including live TV as they are needed for my STBs and digital channels. So I would say that windows 7 and sage 7 treat HDPVRs quite well indeed.

And that may be another option for me since I'm still on WinXP pro. "If it ain't broke don't fix it". But maybe it is broke!

call hauppauge, even if you're out of warranty. they tested mine somehow, it failed a lot, and they replaced it about six weeks ago. One freeze since then, and it happened during a reboot. running win7, sage7, and the latest drivers.

there, i taunted the hdpvr gods. tonight i will go home and my hdpvr will be a charred hole in the shelf.

I've been having problems in the later 7.0.x betas. I been trying 1.5.7 and 1.5.6.1. It was rock solid in earlier betas and V6. It's not locking up completely but I'm getting a few pauses in a half hour show. It's in the recording. I see the light go off and the pauses are there no matter what I play back the recording with.
